Kept having a scene echo in my head today, so I drew it to the best of my ability. As the scene echoed I built a story for it, but don’t expect anything from it until I finish/hit a stopping point with my current story.

try taking a picture of a real hand with your cell phone.
then you need some GIMP-fu.
the great thing is you can easily enough get a real hand to take unlimited photos of.
fool around with lighting, distance, angle, etc.
when you like the composition, let me know.
even if I can't GIMP-fu you a finished product, it will give you mock-up ideas.

That's not as bad as you think. Make the sleeve longer and it'll help a lot.

Thank you, however I think they are quite simple. Just me doing the best with my lack of practice and skill. I just try to draw the money moment of a scene I came up with. I also try to keep things as simple yet precise as possible. The fewer colors and the more they contrast the better. However I am drawing the ‘money shot’ so if there is a detail I am including I must give it proper weight. Also since it is a scene from a book and not a movie/visual medium it is important to try and convey an emotion on top of it. For this cover that was mystery.

However since all of those decisions are typically the opposite of which are made for most covers they end up standing out imo. However when the tides turn, they will probably only stand out due to the amateur color contrast in them.

For this image, there really isn’t much contrasting with the hand, so even if I drew it perfectly it still would look somewhat off imo. The blue veins should probably be more unnatural if I am to go back to it, and of course I will need to work on the hand. The arm itself is also too simple atm. It is missing an elbow for example, and the proportions are all wrong. I should also probably have put more focus on the fruit and the bird.
