Will Graham from Manhunter (also remake Red Dragon) is a criminalist profiler whose job is to get into the minds of the criminals on the run, understand their motivations and mindsets, and use that to catch them. His uncanny ability to emphasise with criminals led him to catch Hannibal Lecter, however that also got him institutionalised because he emphasised too deeply with Lecter.
A similar main character was featured in a Chinese web novel called case file 013, a criminalist profiler who method actors into the minds of the criminals and that breaks him, drives him to the verge of insanity.
I so much dig this idea, a criminalist profiler who imagines things from the perspectives of the criminals too much, gets on the slippery slope. I wanna watch some movies with this kind of main characters. Or tv shows (but they have to have good ratings)
