This is me after reading the raws of Original Vampire and it ended with the cliffhanger of MC Colin who is about to get his anal cavity punctured by the elder wizard, who in previous chapters had already punctured MC's chest cavity for being too impressive.

What made me wanting to type and post is not Colin's stupidity and curiosity, but rather his own understanding that he is not skilled just strong (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnskilledButStrong). How many MC like Zac from DoF, like Randidly and like Hercules out there still living out there is always a head scratcher because whenever their lack of skills come into play, something random like deus ex, power of friendship and etcetera will happen to save their backsides.

The theme of unskilled but strong can neither be used on Jin MuWon who trains like hell for seven years and nor on folks like Jason Asano because he is shown weak as half of the shit he fought is way beyond his paygrade, ie the Builder and the guy who killed his brother.

The term unskilled but strong always leave a disgusting taste in my mouth, solely for the association of being Overgeared/ Munchkin stats and some unbalancing act that makes the character way stronger than those who are supposed to be at the same level like the typical Xianxia MC who somehow learns a primodial cultivation technique and has a larger ki pool or so.

The trope to me always feel like a fallback in case of plot fuckups that require MC to tank rock solid feces out of the sky and have the person stand out as a special case. And it is only by today that the trope finally rubs me the wrong way as it finally correctly labels the MC Colin for being inept, which is kind of true when during the first chest inspection, he is at the same level as the wizard and already knew that he was attacking and yet the vampire still lets the attack landed.

this, i don't get it myself why some authors loved to make their mc's special and perfect.

Halfway of my own rant I forgot what I wanted to express.

So my main point is that unskilled but strong should not be a constant thing in the storyline. Because it creates an unbalance for whoever is facing the MC and gives readers like myself some unsatisfactory feel.

While it is fun for an OP MC to go bonk heads of those weaker, it gets boring after awhile. Then at the other spectrum where he face off with a skilled (and maybe just as strong) opponent, it becomes an uncalled curbstomp that makes me want to shake my head..
