I have seen a bunch of stories in the nu feed along the lines of "everybody thought I was trash so I got kicked out of [place] ~ it's too late to call me back ~" or something or other - and it is so annoying! They are like cockroaches in how numerous these titles are.

God, this is just so very irritating. I would understand if it was aimed at middle aged japanese work slaves (no I still wouldn't), but the target audience is teenagers. Do teens have issues with abandonment issues nowadays for so many of this kind to crop up? Anyways.

I want to read a story like "I tried something and realised that it wasn't for me ~ I am now doing another thing which I enjoy more and that's about it for this story ~"

Wherein the story is not about people being mean out of nowhere to a main character and the story is either implicitly or explicitly about getting roundabout revenge on those people by not being there (sigh this is cringe now that I wrote it) but about a main character who learns to accept their flaws and grows as a person by learning to let go and adapt.

No harem or preferably any whiff of romance at all (because the market is oversaturated with that and I'm sick of it)

No pampering of mc - by which the character is so *special* and *good* and it *has* to be told (through artificial lowering of standards for other characters or other character dialogues and monologues)

I think i saw 1-2 series that had "we separated in good terms" but sadly for you i can't remember them and i am not someone that list my stuff.
AH ! Remembered that one of them had MC was in party of "childhood friends" from same village (not girls only but boys too). But basically MC discovered that unlike the others, his talents were mediocre so he chose to leave by himself.
The beginning of the manga, MC was basically in the adventurer building and there is some kind of recruitment and after hearing its recruitment for the guild of his childhood friends and one of his "childhood friend" is gonna appear so he tries to escape secretly. Of course will fail and the girl will appear and hug him.
And there is the twist that MC is freaking OP but his "childhood friends" know that. Its just that MC became op thx to always being cowardly and not trying to be surpassed by his c-friends, but unlike his c-friends he kinda underestimate his own methods (like a slime in a sealed bottle that basically can ingest and grow infinitely if out of control) compared to others being flashy.

.....Remembered 2nd one after writing first one.
2nd one is .............. i forgot again..... Give me 1min.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Edit : Remembered.
But this one is not really "separated" in good terms but more like "forced by others".
Title was like "i am weak but i have [talking skills] at max"
or maybe "i have negotiation skills maxed" or something

In short, MC is leader of a op guild (or party?). After 1-2 chaps of MC walking, there is flashback : the retard king when try employing his party/guild, the king that was kind turn evil when he heard that compared to his own subordinates himself got 0 fighting strength. So basically makes his own commander (coincidence plot that its a jealous male childhood friend of MC that always wanted to surpass MC) take control of MC's party.
Despite persuasions, King don't listen about the fact the party only works thx to him, the "MC".

Then later (not shown but just explanation), it's explained that commander dude took charge of them and they acted nonchalant that MC was replaced by commander dude.

But 5 chaps later, king hear news about a first victory but the "party" destroyed the town where fight occured. Which is kinda counter productive as the "demon" (or whatever) wasn't dangerous enough to even to destroy town.
And its explained that the barbarian dude destroyed buildings with big attacks, sage sleeping, another says (s)he only listens to MC's orders. And that then commander fainted by a rock on his head or something.

In short : This dudes are freaking op but are incontrollable unless MC with max speaking/negociation skills is there.

Meanwhile this time, MC is journeying with a princess and showcasing his talents of "negociation". By example stopping the attack of mermen on a ship. OR the fact when buying a "magic phone" he bought ton of them despite one able to register 100 numbers.
Said "having connections is strength".

You want "MC : not for me so i drop out" huh ?
Then i think "restaurant for outcasts" kinda is what you want.
MC is kinda tall and there is a small girl with silver hair as waitress (no romance with her).

The closest story to what you're describing that I know is called The Tutorial is Too Hard.

What happens there is basically that the story starts after the mc quit proffesional gaming, and throughout the story (it's an over 300 chapter webnovel, I think Korean although I'm not sure) he occasionally has short flashbacks from that time. There is quite a bit of negative feelings associated with it, but he was not kicked out - not directly, at least - and he doesn't meet the people he resents as far as I read, which is chapter 130. The story treats it more like something to push character development forward than as a plot point.

It's a good psychological story in general, but its literary value is rather low.

Another series is

A Court Magician, Who Was Focused On Supportive Magic Because His Allies Were Too Weak, Aims To Become The Strongest After Being Banished

Basically MC is op mage but forced to focus "support" magic (crappy talent for it unlike his offensive magic) because he is in the party of the arrogant prince.
After being expulsed, he join back with his OP childhood friends (1 dude and 2 girls) that are adventurers that didn't agreeed in the past of him being a "court mage" but accepted because of MC stubborness.
Then routine that the prince discover he is weak, not accepting it. And (good) king is furious when hearing he expulsed MC, and also show proof that its only thx to MC that he kept winning / basically knew from the start how OP mc is.

Then after prince dueling MC and losing. Bullshit fairy tale style that the dude admit his wrongs and will try to correct himself.

Found it back.
Here :
Jinmyaku Cheat de Hajimeru Hitomakase Eiyuu-tan
A Heroic Tale About Starting With a Personal Relations Cheat(Ability) and Letting Others Do the Job

The hero and weapon are the strongest connections! An exhilarating fantasy that lurks from the back of the world!
Ned, a young man who has been behind many of the world's greatest achievements, using a weapon known as human networking.
One day, however, he is judged by the selfish king to be a liability and expelled from the heroic party.
Ned decides to start as an adventurer from scratch. But his life as an adventurer is naturally out of the ordinary, as he is adored and connected with everyone from the leader of the knights to the princess of the mermaid tribe...
'Can I get help from the Wisdom King and the Great Sage to find this person?'
Meanwhile, the King is coming to a realization. The heroes' party was full of capable, but incredibly problematic children, and that it was Ned that controlled them..
Thus opens a new story of a hero who changes the world from behind the scenes with his motto of "using connections".

I stop writing. tired.

Last thing.
Try looking in novel categories and not just mangas.

Asking NU forum or going to MTL websites to search or going to raw syosetu is also an option.

Why is it that for some reason I think that they're all [Super] rushed in pacing?
As soon as the MC gets kicked out of [Super-Duper Hero Party], he suddenly discovers [Super-Duper Cheat] and becomes nigh-invincible.
Plus, I feel as if these stories would be much better if they didn't nerf every character's Intelligence in order for the MC to look smart and cool.

That's very possible. A lot of young people these days grow up with all (be that one because they only have one or whatever) parents earning money instead of spending time with their kids.

a quick interweb search says that kind of family is the majority: 62.3% double income family (I guess single parents would make this even more)

Yeah... that really doesn't happen much. I think that only really happens when the mc is really depressed or unhappy with their dead end job.

Even in some of the stories where the mc leaves on 'good terms', still have the other side be punished cause of course the mc was the only one keeping the previous group afloat (Doesn't matter if its a normal job, or adventuring party)

No pampering of mc - by which the character is so *special* and *good* and it *has* to be told (through artificial lowering of standards for other characters or other character dialogues and monologues)
Honestly I think this is impossible to find not combined with the 'left previous place for some reason'. Every story with mc leaving their previous place nearly always leads them to a new place where everyone and their pet praising mc for their skill.

REVENGE NEVER GETS OLD!!!
Seriously...

I want a story where everyone says the MC sucks, they kick him out, and he actually sucks. He's not an ass about it, but he goes, huh. I should do better, then becomes a manage of a public bath and gets used as a play thing for bored housewives.

It ends with a jealous husband drowning him in his own baths.

Tonal whiplash is my fetish.

In that case, the writers at kakuyomu.jp and syosetu would have to work harder, rather than just leveraging formulae.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@TrashyHuman
Thx to Bobple, I remembered a very rare exception where the MC truly left / retired in peace !!!!!
8-o.jpg
VERY WHOLESOME
But it kinda enter then a half-different category.

I think the manga had a name like "The old man was forced to take a vacation"

Why i say half fitting different ? because you enter the separate genre where main theme is "MC is an old man"
so you get the old man adventurer retired from party, or they become a dad (adopting), etc
Niche theme but it exist.

Returning to the recommended manga, this isekai manga is MC looking like a english gentleman stereotype or butler. MC is working extra hard and efficient in the adventurer guild, doing paperworks. And basically his kind subordinates (not sarcasm) found a way to make the 24/7 hardworker MC get vacation by sending him on a "delivery quest". MC resisting as he wants to keep working, but finally give up and accept their good intentions to take vacation (trip) with this quest. But of course he will encounter some obstacles (and lady/ies) along the way and show his opness while keeping his "gentleman" demeanor.

Edit : found it, this was easy
[The Servant Of The Ultimate Party ~An Old Man Forced To Take A Holiday~]
(sad no updates)

Edit 2 :
Booyah !!! I won the thread / request !
(just kidding but still having a sense of victory xD)
The fact this theme is so rare and only me giving a near perfect fitting solution, is like a king asking a certain very rare mystical material to the world but only one adventurer among millions did it.
God it feels good.... Not about beating rivals but about being able to complete this quest of "impossible" difficulty.

PS : the male party members are like asian teen idols / teen ikemen written by a shoujo author. But fit the wholesome vib
PS PS : Ty for the likes =)
