So. Big fan of revenge type stories, including the cheesy "best kind of revenge is living well" where an underappreciated character was secretly/ unrecognizable as OP and there are definitely places where that trope is better recieved than others.
I really enjoy it when an exploited craftsman/ specialist is released from a hateful environment where they learn that they were actually fantastic and skilled all along BUT I genuinely despise and avoid stories where the character is an "aw shucks" kind of fellow that assumes they're terrible at fighting but they're actually level 99999/OP/Demigod/whatever!!!1! like it really grinds my gears.
I'm honestly not sure why there's such a disparity between the two even though they're essentially the same approach to the storytelling. Maybe it's because the latter stays ignorant of the power they wield? I dunno, just wanted to ramble a little

I usually don't like either or them since the suffering only happens for a few chapters and the rest is just the story sucking off the MC's d*ck.

But I can overlook it if the waifus are good and the MC's personality is bearable.

In my opinion, those two story ideas mainly either live or die based on how good the author that's writing them is at it.
I don't know about anyone else, but what I do dislike from the 'I was judged as useless and thrown away but I'm actually secretly OP GigaChad and have a Godly RPGClass' type of stories is when the comedy/humor aspect of it essentially is boiled down to the same joke over, and over, and over, again.
I'm not the comedy police that's gonna get up on stage and stab you for telling jokes I don't like, nor do I have anything against comedy itself, but it can get annoying sometimes.
For example;
-MC: Does something amazingly amazing that is so amazing (yes, so amazing.)
-Characters A to Z: "Wow, that's amazing!"
-MC: "Amazing? Really? I thought it was normal stuff that everyone did?"
-Characters A to Z: Continues to suck the MC off.
-Repeat Over and Over and Over and Over.

Well, this appeals to Japan's pacifistic (at least on surface) side as people just live and let live and go on with their lives.

As for the hidden talent thing, it is a feel good session for them to make them think that they are wanted/ have actual talent.

It is at best wish fulfilment, just like how CN and KR MCs wanting to kill god (or their own govt) in order to be on top of the food chain.
