Yep. My editor is costing me a fair bit of my savings right now but it's a fair price for quality. Some editors will work out a deal if the author is willing to hire them through the whole editing process but that's usually only for books that are going to be physically or ebook published.

You can barely buy a single burger for 5$ nowdays. (In USA)
An interesting bit of info to consider. International employment might consider that a better income than someone domestic.
