Hi, I'm looking for fantasy where the protagonist learns/studies/researches the magic system. Preferably it is explored throughout the whole story but a long-ish training/academy arc would be fine as well. Or when protagonist experiments with magic or magic item crafting.
100k words at minimum unless completed, preferably 250k+.

Some fiction I've read I think fit this criteria (at least somewhat)
  • The Reincarnation of Alysara
  • Mark of The Fool
  • Blue Core
  • Supreme Magus
  • Isekai'd Shoggoth
  • Lets Explore and Enjoy
  • Reborn From the Cosmos
  • The Irregular at Magic High School
  • Death March
  • Infinite Mana in The Apocalypse

Since I didn't see it on your list of read titles, not here on ScribbleHub but I thought "Mother of Learning" had a well thought out magic system.

Well-explained magic sysyem? Then it should be Coiling Dragon. As far as I remember, CD became one, if not most used, magic systems in the majority of the novels that I saw. You know the novels that has Saint-Class Mages, Battle Warriors with Aura, or God-Realm with Law Comprehension? It all came from that one novel. IET is a known author with comprehensive world building & power systems, too.

Meanwhile, if you want a magic system novel mixed with science, you can try Throne of Magical Arcana. MC became a researcher there, and it's also fun to read. This novel is written by LoTM's author and I've read it, so I can vouch that its good.
