Honestly why are there so many genderbenderlenderfenderrendertender novels honestly I am unsure why I am making this post I, as a man who is weirded out by genderbend stories I even see people sometimes on author thread replies telling people to write genderbend futa stories, I get people are kinky, but why do people like them so much, I’m most definitely getting hate for posting this, and no guys im not homophobic alright? I just find genderbend stories a bit odd i might say, so like uhh forgive me if I say anything offensive in this post, and PLEASE I DONT LIKE GENDERBEND STORIES AND THATS MY OPINION SO DONT COME FOR ME alright? Anyways I’m gonna go back to pretending I’m planning for my novel

that said there are some really good works out there, but and one of the best trans stories i have ever read doesnt even use the GB tag. (i also write one that doesnt use that tag but mine is imo significantly less awesome.)

There are a lot of reasons though. some are closeted and want escapism, and others are interested in the more social dynamics.

It's OK for people to like things. It's OK for people to not like things, too. People simply have different tastes.

I can't say why those are popular, but I can tell you why so may stories on SH share that topic.

Supply and demand.

When a tag grows in popularity, writers will take notice. New stories emerge using that content in order to grab easy attention, and hopefully to find their audience with their story.

This isn't the primary reason why these stories exists, it's likely for simpler reasons of intrigue in the topic and possible curiosity of coming out or exploring the opposite gender in regards to heterosexuality.

And also smut, smut could very well be the biggest culprit behind your question. Just my two cents

Well, the thing that gets me about GB, GL, Futa, smut is, is it really GL?

Your protag is a male gets turned into a "female" but surprise, surprise, MC still has there penis. Sure there are the outliers with some MC's having the combo of both bits but it usually is focused on the male genitalia.

At this point the MC is just a femboy that you wouldn't know until then are naked. There's no stakes in the story besides them being treated like a woman when clothed and the MC still thinks like a dude.

Anyways, it's not going to change anything but I just wanted to toss my hat into the ring.

I guess in a sense that an artist can draw whatever they want, a writer can write whatever they want.
As the others say, the filters help a lot: I use them too because I'm not a big fan of kinky stories either.
Besides, you can find some writers who don't write those types of stories if you know where to look. I don't know where to look yet, but I'm sure I'll come across a non-kinky writer or two sometime soon.
