Calling it cultivation concept isn't wrong, because normay only in xianxia would this topic be front and centre.
In these cases, it is always about how man the human cultivate himself to then affect the universe around him. Ignoring the mumbo jumbo mystic crap, it is also a fun analogy for cultivate oneself, manage the family, govern the country, and bring peace to the world (修身齐家治国平天下).
To put it bluntly, to better oneself before starting to better the world.
In xianxia mumbo however, it becomes to become wizard then turn into reality warper. With oneself now powerful enough to radiate outwards.
In some martial cultivation case, I have heard of of letting the universe temper and nurture the body from outer to within, therefore it is a form of take-in system, to rob from the universe to grow the body.
So there's in to out and out to in, I wonder if there's another direction?
