Is Mult-posting your story good? Or bad?

What I mean about "multi-posting" is when you post your story in multiple websites. (E.g, RR, WN, Tapas, even SH, or anything else).

Personally, I would say "half-agree, half-disagree"

I agree that it can help advertising your story well and adapt much majority to view and read your story.

I also disagree because it might cause copyright backlash (especially if you're now a contracted author). I preferred to be contracted on some decent paper publishing company rather than just one website that isn't quite structured for marketing.

You could just copy, paste your edited text to other website, that would be simple.

If you're contracted, and part of that contracted is exclusivity, why the eff would you still be cross-posting? :S

I do. Im just too lazy to keep doing that over and over. I try, but if i miss a few on one site i dont mind it as long as the one on the main site is fixed.

It's pretty much always better to post in multiple sites to get more exposure I think? I mean... Especially if you wanna earn some money form Patreon and stuff.

I mean, the only downside is that you need to spend more time publishing in multiple sites.

Unless you have an exclusivity contract of course. Then you post where you can post~

Same, except I prioritize two. Writing.com is where I keep the cleanest copy because their awesome gift point system gets me more reviews, and so I have more incentive to clean it up over there. The problem with writing.com is their confusing user interface, but once you figure it out, it's pretty awesome.

If you review someone you have never reviewed before, you get free gift points! Also, I have set up auto-rewards for reviewing parts 2-10, so if you want to jump over there, you can get a great starter pack of gift points just by reviewing my story:

It's also good to prioritize more than one in case one *coughwattpadcough* kicks me off. Then, I still have a clean copy elsewhere. They made me a "preferred author" on writing.com though, so probably not going to get kicked off there.

I'm posting in two sites, RR and SH. No, 3, add Patreon. Honestly, I am to at least one day earn to my keep through writing. You know, you gotta dream big and do big to achieve things . Depending on your availability it might be quite hectic. Of course, if you want to do something that last you'll need effort to promote your novel on all possible places. So, it will be nice to multi-pose on other sites as long as the novel is yours. After all, rather than having it stolen from you by shameless people. Why not post it yourself.

The key here is effort and time. Your goals as well really matters.

Though, if you want to get a good flow readers. I know three proven and established way
1. Quality
2. Quantity
3. Shamelessness = Promoting, I mean what's wrong with that as long as you know your limits.

My math for today is

Quality + Quantity = Happy readers = Word of mouth + Shamelessness = More readers = Reputation = Possible monetary gains = Cycle

There's no Copywrite backlash if you remove the story from everywhere before signing the contract. I mean, unless you accepted the terms and conditions of a shady website like WN (they basically owned your story according to the first terms, but I understand it changed). Then, they might claim to have the right to keep the story there and you're in for a pitch.

Other than that, if you're already posting somewhere online, there's no reason at all but time expenditure to not spread it as much as possible.

It only gives you more visibility, which is great.

Yeah, the more sites you post on, the more you have to interact with - or well, the more you should be interacting with. Just... disregard the fact that I haven't replied to comments anywhere for like 2 months now. But more seriously, people need to be careful about how many websites they post to. It might not sound like much, but it can get pretty tiring when you have to upload the same chapter to 5 different websites, making sure everything is properly formatted, monitoring comment sections, checking reviews, so on and so on. Personally, I believe the combo of just RR and SH is the best. In general, though, I'd try to stick to 2-3 websites. Anything more than that can get very tiring very quickly, in my opinion. Or alternatively, post wide to a whole bunch of sites, and then cut down that amount to only the top 2-3 that are working for you.

I don't think that's really true?

I mean, in some platforms like wattpad, you need to interact with people to get any visibility AFAIK, as Wattpad doesn't advertise new stories very well. (or at all)

OTOH, in stuff like Scribbly, you don't really need to make any interaction at all? I personally love interacting with my readers, so I'd keep doing it, but I'm pretty sure my forum interactions with others must have gotten me like... 10 readers at best? And I'm one of the more prolific users in this forum.

At the end of the day, your biggest advertisers are Scribbly's search page and your genres/tags. You don't really need to do that much advertising yourself. (Though incentivizing your readers to advertise for you might be successful I guess? I dunno, I just heard of one RR author that recommended doing that some 4ish years back)

That's also a good point! It can get tiring to upload it to many sites, 2-3 seems best! >.<

My story got 10K views on Scribble Hub. And 450K on Royal Roads. From a pure view-count perspective tossing a story onto as many sites as possible is usually the greatest option.

I started out with DeviantArt and Livejournal back in the Ancient Days of the Net. dA finally turned into a complete turd so trying out ScribbleHub. I want to post to more but I still get paranoid my editing isn't good enough even after doing a read aloud with a robot voice. Mostly, it's the commas. I know the comma rules, I wrote a 300 page treatise on grammar for a class which I still reference because I busted my rear on it. if I can feel decently confident that my writing is as locked down as humanly possible then I might repost more but ScribbleHub runs well on my oldest gear, so that is a big bonus to keep up compared with more graphically-complicated options. I would love to try Royal Road though. I don't know if they would like my gender-bender/gender fluid fiction, which is mainly anime-inspired.

Imo, multi-posting is good because if for example your story is popular here, there might be some bastards who will post it on other sites like webnovel and wattpad. I've heard a similar case. that's why it's better for you to post your own story than other bastards who post it without your permission.

I'm under the belief that more exposure is almost always a good thing.

Every place as different people looking for different things. If your novel isn't going well somewhere else it might be because the right people haven't found it. So, why not spread your novel across multiple platforms in hopes that you find the collection of people who finds what appeals to them?

Personally i think posting on many sites is a crutch that can hurt you in the long-term, because if you ever get a story that truly breaks big in popularity, you've fragmented the readership a ton (think if Worm had been crossposted on three sites, for example). In the age of social media this matters a lot less than it used to, but mutli-posting is still more of a crutch than a real benefit I think.

The flip side of this is that I crosspost to many sites lol. My Bowsette fan fiction is currently on Fanfiction.net, AO3, Wattpad, Royal Road, AND Scribble Hub now, and Hands Held in the Snow is on its main site, Scribble Hub, Royal Road, and Tapas each. I do very much enjoy the extra exposure these stories receive and I really like how well they've done on each site individually. It's not my ideal situation, though! I'd prefer it if it were just one site per story (preferably my own).
