"If you need to ask others, then it's a stupid idea."
-Some wise ass

This is in for my writing.

Here is the question, is it ok for me to reset all the benefits MC has everytime he levels up?

For context, MC at level 1 use his money earned to increase a skill from okay to good to great.

But a restriction is that everytime he levels up, the skill drops back to being ok and he needs to spend more money to pump it back up.

The only benefit of leveling up is slightly moving up the limit cap, allowing MC at level two to push the skill from great to very great and when at level three, it is very very great.

So I am open to advice and currently am working on a revision.

For those of you who said that planning ahead is a good idea in writing, thank you and #@&%! you.

I feel like I am back at work on Good Friday and I hate myself.

Also, Happy Easter!

Kind of reminds me of [I Became the King by Scavenging].
In that, he absorbs the attributes of things he recycles using his skill.
He is stuck at level 1 because of his unique class as a Scavenger.
He then maxes out all his stats.
He is then given the option to reset all his stats back to 0 by levelling up to Level 2, but the cap on his max stats will be significantly increased because of it.

So, I think it could work for you, but I wonder why it's money used and a skill that's improved.
Are stats not affected when he levels up, then?

I don't know if it would work, but it might be a good idea for him to get some reward for his past efforts so they don't seem to be wasted. Maybe based on the skill levels he loses, he'd get vouchers he can use in some kind of gacha where he can win prizes useful for the plot.

... You are so painfully close to what I am typing. Are you in my drive?

Or what I am writing is way too generic?

This sounds like a prestige/ascendence system in an idle game. I'm not really a litrpg reader, but the idea of including such a system in a litrpg sounds reasonable.

If this is the sort of path you're thinking of, my opinion is that you might want to consider if it's worth calling it something other than a "level up", to prevent confusion.

So instead, maybe skills have levels, and prestiging/ascending resets those levels and in turn boosts the level caps of those skills.
