That my novel, Sunshine and Rainbows, is just incompatible with being posted online.

If I want visibility, I have to break up my chapters in parts instead of posting them in full.

If I post them in full, nobody will know the novel exists.

However, if I break them up into parts the readers are turned off because the chapter practically put on pause the entire story for them until I release the next part.

There is simply no solution in sight where I can both play for visibility and reader satisfaction unless I write just like the others do and fit in 30k words in 3k words and I just refuse to skim over details or gloss over details in my storywriting just because I absolutely love writing this way.

If this is a real issue, then simply hold out, and post the whole book at once. If you go that route, I'd recommend not bothering with SH or RR, and publish directly to Amazon KDP. Stories still get read if they're finished. I'll also point out that I can understand the visibility issue being a concern. However, that's because you're using sites that promote a certain type of writing. If it's incompatible, then don't use them.

Now, if the issue is that you want to write novels that fit that category AND get patreon/kickstarter money, then you need to be established, which means you have to do the time investment first to get a following. It is what it is.

Edit: The way I look at SH and RR is as first draft writing. I write to that end. I'm not giving the readers here a final product, nor do I hold myself to that standard. That requires revisions which I'll do after the story is over, and that goes somewhere not here. If you think your story still can't survive as first draft writing here, then proceed as above.

Do the multiple breaks but on a set schedule? So for example, break chapter 1 into say, 3 parts, post them Tueday, Wednesday, Thursday (so it available going into the weekend). Then do the same the next week. It gets you both the visibility of the postings and still gives the reader an easy to remember schedule for updates and gives them the ability to get the whole chapter at a set time

Maybe, in addition to the above, set up a WordPress or similar site, with a link to that site from here, showing the complete chapters as you intended.

Or just say fuck it on visibility. People say 'Art for Arts sake', but it's really 'Art for the Artists Sake'. If you have to change your fundamental structure of your story to fit a certain site, it may not be the right site for you.

Another option: I believe you can create your own sub reddit and post your story chapters there, though I am not sure about character limits.

If you're consistent with what days you release the chapters the it shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, I will say that personally I almost only read finished stories so posting it all at once isn't too out of left field.

Thoughts on chapter length: My novels also have long chapters. It just seemed right. Then I read some James Patterson novels. Really short chapters. Bestselling novelist on the planet (his book jackets say). I reread my own chapters. Could I cut them up? I found when I reviewed that many of my chapters did in fact have natural breaks - places for emphasis, important actions or characters that sort of got runover when lumped into the same chapter. So, I broke those chapters up, and I think the books were better for the changes.

Just my two cents. BTW, I support all the other suggestions posted above.

Meh, I thought of the same, just write it and post it all at once or publish it.

As for the chapter lengths, if I ever were to cut them it wouldn't be me, it would be an editor that would want to make the chapter pacing better. I'm writing One Piece here, someone else will have to come an adapt it into a proper show.
