Writing In response to all the recent cynical posts...

This isn't a rant or a diss, simply an alternate point of view for anyone on ScribbleHub. You probably read the recent posts that explain how to be a successful writer. I read them, and throwing up from the disgust, I realized that these people are propagating the wrong ideas. So, let me give you advice of my own: Don't listen to them.

To their credit, their methods work. The best writers in trending all do what they say to do. 2k words every day of poor writing and hours of market research. They are popular and profitable because they spend hours every day churning out basic plots and banal characters. Their numbers are great, the money is there, everything is great.

So, what do they have to show for all their blood, sweat and tears? A 7/11 clerk's wage, health issues from a sedentary lifestyle, and a clichéd story with no soul and all the flavor of white bread. That's what I call a bad deal. They sold out like Gene and George for an iota of the profit and publicity. Writing is art, that is just a job.

Now, I am on the other half. I am talented and experienced as a writer (and I'm exceedingly humble about it, too~). I am not popular. I make $0 from my writing even though I've put money into it. I don't even post on a regular basis. Naturally, my stats are low and my feedback is nonexistent. And I'm okay with that. I am happy when I write and with what I write.

Change your perception of success and you won't have to follow their method. If you can realize and share your vision, that can be enough. Forget being rich and famous, just do you. You won't have money, fame, or even reviews because that isn't what writing should be about.

I think there are many definitions of what writing should be about. You can claim it's about the art, and someone else can say it's about the money, and they both can be right. You can demonstrate both things. You can also demonstrate that writing is about informing about History, Science, Culture, etc.

The larger point is to decide. What are you writing for? Who are you writing for? Is this story for those that want to learn? Is this story a piece of art to be made for yourself? Do you want the art seen by others?

And that is the most important thing. Target audience. The audience is me? Great, then I will make an art piece for me that I admire. The audience is for Fantasy lovers? Okay, what does the market look like? Can my vision work on this site? If not, are there other sites where it can be read by many?

I think that's all most people are saying. The fact that we can coexist and all tell our own story is a great thing. If you would like to just write for the sake of the art, that's amazing! But everyone else who want a career in writing are also valid.

As the suspicious loli box vampire says. Gotta go where your audience is. It doesn’t hurt to also go into worse spaces, but you should prioritize where your audience is.

I figured, since I technically do have a sizable base. And given how giving out hard work for free just leaves me encountering toxicity.

I might as well monetize. If they hate me, then at least I am getting paid. Note though, if you go to Patreon.

Be clear about the terms, and ensure to leave yourself pathways to protect yourself. Dealing with money is another sorta beast.
