I vow that my next novel will be 100k words long, if not longer.

So, I have posted some shorter works lately. But, no more! I am starting a novel today, and it is going to be 100k words or longer. And if it is not, you all have my permission to shame me into Oblivion.
(The story is about a weightlifter who gets diagnosed with a condition where if he lifts weights, he will die. So, he begins to work in an animal shelter and does his best to get all the animals adopted...and it won't be a BL. Wonders of all wonders. I want to try my hand on an actual GB story, for once.)
I hope I can do it. Because if not, I think I can't call myself a writer anymore.

Nonsense.

I lot of great writers are known for their shorter works. Robert E. Howard (Conan) only wrote one novel. The rest are short stories, novelettes, and what we call "novellas" but back in his day, and I would argue its still a much better term "short novels." I believe it was Lovecraft who wrote an essay on short fiction, describing that it was the ultimate form, because to totally immerse your reader, they have to be able to read your work in a single sitting so they aren't disturbed from their experience. The recently deceased Harlan Ellison (considered to be a modern great) write mainly short fiction.

I've written over 1.4 million words, and I only have two novels over 100,000 words, the second of which I'm writing right now and it's at 154,000 words. Personally, my favorite length is the novelette, which is longer than a short story (7,500 words) and shorter than a novella (20,000-39,000). My Jinni and the Isekai series is six volumes, comprising four novellas and two novels. But... I've added them all together, each "book" as a "part" in a larger whole, and now it's a 750 page epic. I intend to write 2-3 more volumes, so by the time it's done, it will be a door stopper epic. So on their own, they're pretty short volumes, add them all up and I've written a whopper of a novel.

My goal is to make my current project the most total words on Scribblehub, and this includes my author's notes at the end of every chapter. Right now 2.04 million is the longest. I'm at around 60,000 so I have some catching up to do.
