I was surprised at how much things changed compared to the final one. Characters having different personalities and ideals, plot-lines being altered and some event being omitted completely. Has anyone else have happen before?

Daisuke (MC) was an ass and dense as super black hole in the draft for some reason. Thank the Gods for that.

Yep. Characters sometimes take the stories in unexpected directions. Had a character in one story that I had planned to have just show up in passing a few times decide that she had to be one of the MCs. and would not let me say no. Though I have "living drafts" - constantly re-edited before (and sometimes after) posting, so no "first draft" but a lot of concept notes.

Oh yeah... the MC is mostly the same but nearly everything else is different. Each revision made the story darker. Was a romance angle in the original which doesn't exist now. Another MC originally died early in the first book. An ally became an enemy, enemy became...well, less of an enemy. Added a big bad and a few minions...another MC is no longer fully human.
