Hello, I just started writing a book. I've never written anything before, except for college assignments.

I've always wanted to write novels, but I never started because English isn't my first language and I'm not confident with wordplay.

But I've decided to start now.

Any tips would be helpful, and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Tony will need to manually approve your story before it can be visible. Don't upload too many chapters at once because it will make the moderation time longer.

I queued up 4 chapters a day for Friday through Sunday and got approved within an hour and a half.

As for tips on the writing, then reading is your best best. See how other people approach storytelling. Second best bet is to practice. Writing is a skill like any other and it is something you'll be constantly improving until the day you die or write your last story.

You will not be a master of the craft on your first story, so don't stress it too much and just wrote what interests you.

Every person's actions should stay in 1 paragraph.

Only makes a new paragraph if it is no longer about the current person's action.

For example:

"Gasoline." The word leaked out through her gritting jaws. Her rage burnt as fierce as the flame below. It was her fault that they were in this inferno. "Damn you!" She would not forget. She would not forget this mistake, this pain, this... sin. She shouted to surbodinate nearby. "Where is he? I want him found!"

The middle-aged soldier shook his head. "We had no idea."

As you see in the above example, each paragraph must be dedicated to one person. It matters not how long and short a paragraph is, never put two people's action in one.

I must contradict you, but also agree in some cases.

Any paragraph with dialogue from a character should be isolated from any other character for clarity.

If there is no dialogue it is perfectly acceptable to have actions of multiple characters in one paragraph so long as they are closely related or linked. If they are not connected or relevant to each other, then you'd start a new paragraph.

This is Scribblehub it’s a web novel and fan fiction site with heavy inspiration from eastern light novels.

If you write very prose heavy like you might find in a traditional western novel you might not be able to connect with readers. Lot’s of detailed prose doesn’t necessarily make something bad, but it’s not what the average SH reader is really looking for.

Having read the first two chapters I can say you're off to a great start. It lacks punchy action and not a ton actually happens, but the emotional development and connection you build with the main character right away hit me pretty hard.

Overall your structure is good. I'd say one thing you could study up on is active vs passive voice. You lean heavily towards passive voice, which isn't bad, but it's the thing I found most noteworthy for development as an author from what I read thus far.

Good work!

Thanks for the advice. To be honest i always liked slice of life novel more than action adventure. So I'm going with a slice of life, world building, journey type novel. And recently i read ton of old journey book. Like adventure of ibn battuta. I want to write something along the line of that.
Less action more world building.....

Expect to screw up, especially if English is not your native language. You will have characters in two places at the same time, dialogue and scenes that contradict earlier ones, plot points that no longer make sense after events transpired - it is all part of the process; if you're a plotter, you'll run into this less than most but you will still see it; if you're a pantser, it will be a common thing.
That's the only advice I have.

I've heard it HELPS but is not mandatory.... heck, I had a story on trending for about an hour before I even heard of you or your story! :s_tongue:
Foolish mortal. Had you rated her story 1-star before writing you would have ascended to greater heights. You could've earned 69420 Eagle Country Money per month on Patreon.

Heh heh heh. I got a tip alright.

If you want or have inspiration then don't just read it, analyze the work. See how it is being structured and conveyed rather than the pure entertainment value it gives you personally.

I think it's more that prose light stuff is easier to write and therefore floods the site. Also, smut and power fantasies can worn with thin prose. One of my current favorites is prose-heavy:

My advice is pretty basic really. It's things you likely already do, but are pretty important. Develop the plot, define the characters. Have an overall vision of what you want the story to accomplish and then outline as you go along to make sure you are keeping a decent pace toward your goal. Don't be afraid to make short chapters if the story ends up going in small tangent.

I said all that when I could have said - just be organized.

See what happens when you don't plan what to say or write? ?
