So, I seem to be getting more readers with weekly updates, but I don't want to run a Patreon anymore, so I am left with a problem. I have unpublished chapters which I want to share.

The readers don't want to be spammed.

How do I both upload the chapters and keep my new readers? I just feel so strange having just the first chapters of my two projects posted, when I already have 8 chapters from each project.

I don't think you would get more readers with weekly updates, honestly.
I think everyone wants their favorite stories to have more chapters, no?

schedule the chapters for a weekly or biweekly basic
AO3 doesn't have scheduling, unless you want to set the date back.

I got 23 views on my new project's first chapter when I normally have like 2-4. And, yeah, you can laugh yourself to death now because 23 is nothing in Scribble Hub numbers, but for me, it is an improvement. My readers are lurkers, and they don't read my author notes, so I can't ask them what sort of updates they want.

I think that for them something that can be updated daily, or a couple of times per day, as is the case with my stories, feels cheap and rushed. I am a pantser. It is not that I want to rush the chapters, I just get in the flow and am done with the draft in 30 minutes flat. Then I take about 45–60 minutes to clean up everything and the chapter is ready to be read.

If it depended on me, I'd spam them to hell and back. But I have to think about exposure, which will help my story gain readers even after I post the last chapter.

So you see, the problem remains.

I did it, I updated. Normal people have cocaine and vodka, I have views and hearts. Now excuse me, as I obsessively check my stats every other minute or so. Was good having 23 readers for a while. AO3 counts its view like the real readers' system we have here. It felt so good. And now it is over.

I got like... 8 regular readers for HKN. When you update a story for two years and it still is in the single digits, then you can complain.

23? Yer a bloody, Braggart. That's what you are.

Er... I'm not exactly sure either, I just do daily uploads and it appears to be fine for me. Back when I started my story, I used to do double uploads a day as well, wild time.

Regardless though, it's good that you enjoyed something at least.
