Alright, let’s settle this once and for all: how many chapters does a story get before you decide it’s worth your precious time?

  • 1 chapter: Love at first read ?
  • 3 chapters: Testing the waters ?
  • 5+ chapters: Slow burn enthusiast ?
  • 10+ chapters: The ultimate loyal reader ?
Or are you the rare legend who finishes the whole thing before deciding if you like it? Respect, but also... HOW?! ?
Bonus points if you share what makes you stick with a story—epic plot twists, lovable characters, or just a snarky MC who makes you laugh (you know, like this one). ?
Let’s see who reads for the long haul and who swipes faster than a dating app! ?

For me it's about 3-5, I feel like it's the sweet spot to find out if you like the author's style and if you think it's going in a direction or is throwing ideas at the wall and hoping something sticks.

Also a clever MC that outwits opponents. >>>>

I've been known to drop stories after hundreds of chapters. You gotta keep paying the quality upkeep fee for me. I drop most in the first chapter when I get the gist of the story but am not interested in it (either due to quality or due to it being the upteenth time the same story has been told). A few make it five to ten chapters. I haven't had a good time with reading since I started writing though. I think I've enjoyed about 2 stories in that time. The creative process is a draining one.

It depends but if the first chapter does not turn me off, I'll usually stick around for 3-5 before deciding to finish or abandon it.

I'd rather count how many chapters it gets me to become turned off. And it varies greatly. I know that there are stories that you can only properly appreciate after finishing the whole thing.
Also, the counter resets after a wow moment.

This so much this!

I have dropped stories that I have been tens, hundreds to even thousands of chapters into, just because it lost my interest for whatever reason. I have dropped chapters at the synopsis. Most of the time it is between 1-5 for really bad writing, 5-10 for meh I was giving it a try just in hopes it would get better. 10-20 chapters because something about the story just kept making me hope it would get better but it did not..

Won't even read stuff that doesn't have at least 50 chapters and releases 3 to 5 chapters per week.
