Focus on what you want. Having abstract ideas of what you want in life is a horrible way to maintain a goal. Set strict deadlines for yourself and keep some minor stimulus to keep your mind fresh. The biggest part about 'motivation', is that it's almost entirely habit. I don't look forward to or like working out, but it's so ingrained into ky kornings that it feels wrong to do otherwise.
Make sure to set reasonable goals too, some of the worst advice you could take is to ,'shoot for the stars'. Basically setting yourself up for failure. If you're sinking into depression you can setup goals to accomplish over a week. If you're already well into depression, setup goals you can accomplish over an hour or two. Knowing your own limits is important, so take time to understand what you are truly capable of

Having a clear goal in mind would keep your motivation keep ablaze, even if you hate what you are doing.

Boredom is the best motivator.
Give up a few distractions like video games or youtube/movies. (The exception is things that inspire you to write more, obviously.)
After a while, you'll have nothing better to do than the thing you want to do.

Or you'll have a clean house... So win/win.

Unfortunately, I struggle with motivation as well due to extreme depression. Best advice I can give is to try your best, and don't beat yourself up if you can't meet your goals, especially if you manage to make any progress at all. Using writing as an example, writing a full chapter is great. Writing half a chapter is pretty good. Writing 200 words is significantly more than zero, and if you keep doing it, you will end up with a chapter, so it is good too. And keep in mind that doing your best can mean different things on different days. You might be able to manage more in one day than in the entire week before, but the important thing is doing your best for a given day. And as others have said, habit is a big part of it. Don't be like me and keep avoiding things just because you can't do them completely, instead form a habit of trying to get at least a little done every day.

Go see a psychologist and/or a psychiatrist. Maybe you have something neurological getting in the way.

I take ADHD meds. They help me motivate myself to do stuff a lot~

Urgency. The more urgent an issue the more pressed I am to solve it. Otherwise it’s interest, what I’m interested changes often every 3-5 months or so. When I’m interested in something I‘m very motivated in pursuing it. As you can tell by my accounts creation date. In January of this year I was particularly interested in writing, but haven’t had much motivation sense.
