How do YOU come up with the names for your Cultivation Levels, Ranks, Stages, or whatever?

As it says in the title: How do you come up with the names for cultivation rankings? Me personally, I prefer the simplistic approach of just naming them after a letter that I've seen some Western Cultivation type stuff do. Like, Rank E, Rank F, Rank D, Rank C, Rank B, Rank A, and then usually Rank S as the top.

I even knew a guy who had the idea to use all 26 letters. Rather than have stages in between the ranks, Like idk, Rank D, Stage 1 or Rank D, Stage 2, he would just go Rank A all the way to Z, Z being the highest and therefore no stages in between the lettering ranks. Also, the only things that could be considered "stages inbetween ranks" was if someone failed to fully ascend to the next rank, so they would be like, Pseudo Rank C, though he used "Imperfect" instead of "Pseudo" until I mentioned Imperfect Cell from DBZ...which irritated him lol.

Anyway, any other ideas or names?

Of course if you can understand Chinese you can search synonymous of a power (chi), essence and such. Pick what sounds like awesome, and has the meaning of awesome(B-S) and pick the worse (C-F) otherwise-

And um... they usually are 7-10(?) levels. Unless you want to write 2000-5000 chapters. In which the Chinese authors are capable of. Leading to low quality works, trash filter.

I feel like numbers would be the most efficient.

If I had to lay out names, I would go with the Elder Scrolls/ Guild style of novice/initiate, apprentice, journeyman, adept, expert, master etc.

Or maybe a metaphor that's unique to the person: A seed grows into a tree and then a forest, a spark turns into an ember becomes a flame- so on.

Nah, I've seen S. I've only seen E twice in western style's, but I've definitely seen S very frequently.

Decide on a theme, then make names that go along the theme and if possible the powers obtained on that rank.

So if for example I choose "dick" as the theme, the levels would go from flabby foreskin through swollen sack and rigid rod to pillar of annihilation.

Occasionally they do get added though, especially by non-western authors and weebs who don't know or care about the relation to school grades.
