Jokes aside its mostly based on the rule set of that sect. With punishments that could be something like :
Trapped in a cave for a week
Be crippled and kicked out
Just plain death sentence (cortying death wooo)
Or if we go the basic china route. Just pure personal spite because that person looked at you weirdly

The more power physically and the more honor (influence and money) you have the more you can be judge, court and executioner combined. Those who do it without honor (think unorthodox and demon) are frowned upon and eliminated without a court.

I had (not have) a few Tang and Ming series about MC being in the "judicial" system. But they werent wuxia/xianxia.
And well, if it's xianxia / wuxia, 100% its "who got the biggest fist the winner" or "the one that got more connections"
bc the gov is corrupted.
Which is normal. Anyone with power, will find ways to protect themselves and their gold.
Also "why the f, this shitty weaker people order me around?" logic.

Do you mean court as in 'to court death', court as in 'the royal court', or court as in 'court of law'?

I've never seen any proper court or even a judiciary or legal system in xianxia but if you want something to refrence then this might be helpful.
