This is a bit of a rant but also a reminder to y'all to check to see if your gym is charging you during the pandemic. My husband and I placed a 6-month hold on our gym membership before the pandemic started because money was getting tight and six months was the longest we could place it on hold. I saw this post:

and it reminded me to check, and sure enough, the gym started charging us again. Not only is money still tight for us, it's illegal to operate gyms in our county right now. We couldn't enjoy the benefits of membership even if we felt like taking the risk!

Lots of people are in the same boat right now with different gyms. If this is happening to you, know that you're not alone, and you probably won't get anywhere trying to talk to the gym itself. You can try, but it's going to be frustrating and a waste of time. If you're stuck in this situation, ask your credit card company to dispute the charges and block any further charges. If that doesn't work, you can close out your credit card and get a new one.

Nobody needs this type of BS right now.

Our GYM Suspended fees while they were closed. But started up once they were allowed to open up. We canceled as we knew we were not going to use them for awhile. But no difficulty like you had sorry to read.

This isn't uncommon amongst gym memberships, any attempt to quit has always been a horror story be it corona or not.

I've seen them try to weasel out canceling even when people had a doctors note that said that exercise at this point can be fatal. Only reason they canceled was cause other people were there and gave them strange looks.

If someone ever does plan to get a gym membership, opt for using a re-loadable debit card.

It’s because Gyms aren’t allowed to open that they’re trying especially hard to keep their membership. They’re going out of business like everything else that isn’t allowed to operate. A lot of people don’t pay attention to their gym memberships if the monthly charge is low enough, even if they don’t go.

It’s kinda shady, but like everyone else, they’re trying to stay afloat. My son’s grade school is doing the same thing. Classes are through the web now, but the monthly tuition hasn’t lowered. Also makes it harder to work when I have to keep track of him at home.
