I know, exclamation points are like, soooo annoying. Probably the exaggeration of adding letters to simple words as well. Bwa, ha, ha... At any rate, being new to the writing community, I'm kind of spitballing in order to get a feel of the general atmosphere concerning camaraderie. I'm a firm believer that we writers as well as readers need to stick together. I usually refer to myself as a turtle and have reached the point where I want to swim with the other turtles. On that note, I wish to throw this out for a hopefully fun, yet thought-provoking topic. Does one feel that it is better to have confidence-backed competence or competence-backed confidence? Please know, that according to Google, these are not the same. :)

Respectfully yours,

-Jenn

I guess it depends on the situation?
Like, it is more important to have competence-backed confidence in a scenario where someone's life is in danger since you could potentially cause more harm than good if you put yourself out there to help them and have no idea what you're doing.
On the other hand, there are situations where acting confident can save you - like if you end up stranded with a group of strangers and everyone looks terrified and unsure of what to do. You may feel like you need to step up and so act confident while utilising what you know - even if it's not a lot, at least it's something that can help motivate others.

Meh. I don't know.
It's swings and roundabouts. One would work for some things but not for others, and vice versa.

I've probably misinterpreted your question, though.

This is too much perky energy from morning. But gamrning. :p

perception is a huge part of reality. If you can convince yourself of a thing that's almost as much as it being a thing because it becomes a thing. I was listening to a podcast recently they took a bunch of older individuals to a place where it was like decades ago when they were young and they told them to act and behave as though they were their younger selves and everything around them was controlled to be like decades ago and there was a undeniable effect whereby they had an improvement in all of their physical and mental functions to a significant level. There is a limit but how you mentally approach life and your surroundings and your ambitions and your goals is a huge part of how your life figures.

Hello! For the purpose of improvement, I would say confidence-backed competence. Competence-backed confidence is great for one already competent, but in order to strike into new territory, confidence in oneself regardless of proven competence is necessary. I think.

confidence needed to start project
Competence needed to complete project
Competence can grow over course of project

so having the confidence to start is most important.

I should say confidence in yourself, not arrogance or the ability to make empty promises.

regarding atmosphere: Pretty good.

Some people role-play ( RepresentingEnvy is a vampire, TheMonotonePuppet is a puppet obsessed with stars and voodoo-like magic, the PrinceA. is a dragon that hoards friends as part of a “harem”) It is fun interacting in character, just make sure not to take any of the stranger comments too seriously. All of the people I listed in parentheses are super nice and actually give great advice.

There’s the occasional person that posts just to have others interact, often using outlandish or offensive claims. These posts aren’t worth the effort.

if you want serious replies to a post, add (serious) after your intended title. People tend to respect it, and if they don’t, you can report the comment.

@Paul_Tromba is super nice and has already gotten a book published!! So recommend you check their profile out.

A lot of topics are joked about, including R18 writing, so if there’s anything you do not wish to interact with, you can easily avoid it. You can block profiles etc. if you want to filter that out of your feed.

Happy reading and writing!

I don't feel that either one is better. It's like asking if it's better to be male or female.

Thoughts are always good, especially from a hypothetical perspective. It can encourage one to think outside the box. So...If you think of anything, I'd be interested. You may offer something I can learn from. :)
Hoi
Being perfect solves all issues.
lol Good luck with that. I feel you though. Would be nice. :)

Giving thought about the confidence aspect, I see your point and am not detracting from the value of your statement, which is much appreciated. For myself, I feel that if one is competent, then confidence is not necessarily a focal point, because no matter what the person is feeling, one can fall back on his or her skill, if not lose his or herself in it and accomplish what they set out to do. Yet that is from a passion perspective, like one with the ability to dance or compose music. It's embedded to the point where if one is not operating within his or her skill, they're dying slowly instead of thriving.
