So, for the novel, the gates don't work like the usual gates in novels with a whole different world, similar to a dungeon and instead, they are distorted realities.

They create a barrier around the space and inside these domains, everything about that space can become a monster.

Like for example a house: the books, the pencils, the bed, the ideas inside the house, the characters inside a book
Or a haunted house: The rumors around the location, the 'ghosts' spotted, anything.

I personally think this is a very great way to introduce good story telling, not only for the MC but to show stories of other side characters as well as different locations and how they change because of perception.

What do you think?

I use a similar concept of gates with my book too, instead of gates as another world I use gate with the concept of frequencies that mimic the surrounding it's formed on, creating an alternate space based on that surrounding. And once it gets cleared the gate would spit out the building or area it swallow.

I personally think it's a great idea to interpret the gate however you want to. But really, who invented gates in the first place I wonder? Was korean manhwas the first one?

so the inside of the gates are pretty much mimics? =P
In a way.

They don't mimic everything one to one, just distort what's already exist into a new form.

It also changes depending on perception, so if someone loses somebody in a gate, that grief can create a new monster.
