So previously I saw a thread about using chatgbt to give a summary of your own story and so out of curiosity I did the same, I was happy with what I got but then after I looked at its sources and found one from a site I never published too called NovelNext.

I'm not upset or anything since they haven't been updating my story, but I'm just amused, I also think its a good way to have it find out sites that post your story if you dont like that sort of thing.

Usually, there is no good or reliable way to find the sites like that.

You often find them by complete chance.

The process is often automated with minimal intervention. Crawler bots copy the content on one site, and post it on another, without any human involved for setting up the entire thing. Sites, often hosted in the countries that don't have an exemplary track record in respecting the US copyright law, are often temporary, they are taken down and deleted once it gets through some bureaucratic process (hence specific countries chosen, it's not like they don't care about copyright, but their bureaucrats work slowly).

If you know about the site that stole your story now, it might not be there tomorrow, or next week, or next month, so keeping track of the is impossible even if you share the links with other, affected writers.

Asking AI is unusual, I admit, but there is a good chance that the novels were automatically fed to AI too, along with what uploader thought was source material. ChatGPT is bad in actually browsing the Internet.

Such sites are completely automated scraping the net for novels, they will update from time to time as they cycle through the uncountable number of novels they scrape off the net, and i view them more as archives rather than to places to read novels from tbh. Any tables you put in your novel will most definitely be broken there, they likely won't update any fixes the author might have done later on to previous chapters, obviously will have no meaningful way to comment, no community, they don't even get the author notes, or pictures the author might post etc. So well, there is really no meaning to reading in such sites for active novels, only has some worth as archive, which is fine tbh.

By the way, if you want to disturb the scrapper bots, use blue boxes i.e. tables.

Like this:

Scrapper bot doesn't understand this isn't the end of the page ......

...so anything in the table, or under the table, won't be copied.

Nah, most do get all the text, but the text in tables will be broken, ie numbers/lables not placed in right location, just text you must make sense of using your judgement. So still can be read somewhat, but i don't know why anyone would read there if the novel is active on the legitimate site it is posted on by the author. Only has some worth as archive.

That's an improvement in the scrapping bots then.

A script that blocks you from copying the text.

I would post that but it wouldn't let me post code.

Chinese novel sites all have that, but all it does is become an annoyance to readers rather than the bots. The novels still get copied one way or another. I would say as a general rule if something can be read on the screen, there exists a way to copy it. Even if they encrypt the hell out of it, at worst pirates can just make it so the bots automatically identify the relevant text and take pics of it to turn it to text from that. There are already programs that do this for quick translation that i use, so i don't know why chinese sites even bother. Most western sites don't have such protection, as they know it's a futile effort and that it only causes annoyance to readers.

Back when I was trying to find screen readers there were a bunch that only needed a screenshot to work. If that is already possible then it has gotten near impossible to incript a text...

There are codes to prevent that, you know?
But in the end, these scrappers will always be losers and be diagnosed with skill issue.

You could post a guide.
There is not much to guide anyone, really.
Log in to google.com/alerts, add a phrase(s) to look for—for example, the story title—choose how often you want to get it, via what (email or RSS), and that's it.

Example;
