Monsters are invading the world, and people are randomly given special power, while powers are helpful they are not OP. (More capable of fighting than the average non-powered human.) There are no SUPER SUPER powers, no S-ranks all power people are about the same. Stronger faster, sword auras, fireballs etc.

You got given powers (Yay). At the moment, legally you don't need to fight monsters, BUT there are societal pressures for "powered" to be drafted and fight monsters, it's dangerous.

Do you fight or flight (refuse to fight)?

What goes thru your mind as you make the decision?

If it becomes mandatory drafting, What would you do?

Depends on the ability.
If it is some form of power that directly relates to the continuation of my existence in the face of danger, then I will fight. If not, then screw that. I'm fleeing and finding a niche in society to ingratiate myself in to help the war effort in a way only I can with my ability, but escape mandatory drafting. Government will be willing to make an exception if they can't give me up.
And what I mean by continuation of my existence, examples include: building resistances/invulnerability to different types of damage, powerful regeneration (enough to recover from a brief, up close machine gun spray of bullets or up-close grenade, which is may be op), manipulation of flesh, well of vitality, maintaining of form, near indestructibility (with none of the other accompanying features people often have, like increased speed or strength), phasing through matter, superspeed (only if bullet is equivalent to a fast punch, which is DEFINITELY op), just not caring about damage (hearts, brains, whatever, don't really matter), dispersal of damage, ability to absorb damage like a sack of wet sand, forcefields etc.
I hate the decision in general though. I'd rather monsters not be here at all.

Depends on the ability.
Like I said nothing Over Powered

it's just some kind of mysterious energy, you can shoot it, use it like a sword, make yourself run longer and faster, make your body and clothing hardier, and make muscles stronger.

Pretty primitive stuff, but maybe one day people will learn to use it for other things like spells and shit but that not today and war is tomorrow.

if the monster is the lowest in the hierarchy or some mob (goblin?) you can probably solo 2 - 3 at once, barely. A hoard you are dead or anything bigger and more dangerous.

If you get drafted There is no way of knowing what number of monsters you will face, what station, or what you will be assigned to if you are drafted, you can be a community "cop" or frontline fodder, but an army will assign you to what you can do. (usually)

If I can use it like a sword, then I can use it for manufacturing of war munitions.
And I know you said nothing overpowered. That's why I included OP tags for some of them, and not OP tags for other. All of the powers I suggested have or can have variants that are not OP.
So, again, if none of these are on the table, then I am dodging the draft in some way, shape, or form.

Wait, we can do ALL of that~? I thought it was only one of them. :blobrofl:

In that case, I'll probably fight until it becomes mandatory, then I'll help people dodge the draft instead.
My primary focus no matter what will be trying to upgrade my 'limited' power into an OP one through study/practice/growth. It doesn't seem like it would be very hard either, based on what we can already do.

It is an honor to have a war against common enemy.
If anything, one would laugh in blood as its exciting.
There is nothing to be afraid if one has to sacrifice as I feel empty.
Friends? If any, they will come with me and fight.. to the death!
Those who run, go you cowards. Next time, be prepared and face your fear and resolve yourself.

It is a mysterrrrrious energy~~

Think of it this way....like using a big stick, you use it as a club, use it to parry, use it as a crutch, use it to vault over things.

but at the moment you just have this big stick

and you don't know how to make spears or bows and arrows.

through study/practice/growth.
Very much possible. However, that will require time.

Currently, small settlements are overrun with monsters. it is reported 5 to 8% of populated areas are lost to monsters.

At the same time, people can't tell if the media is portraying fully the gravity of the situation.

Some think that we are on the verge of the end of the world as more and more monster waves appear out of nowhere. And the lack of a War front, and the unpredictability of where monster spawns add to the push for more powered soldiers and police.

Others are not so sure and believe that the invasion can be contained by soldiers and police alone. Since at the moment it is believed the probability of getting powers is 30%. and an ideal ratio for army vs civilians should be 2.5%, 1 soldier to 40 civis (according to google?)

Social theorists also worried that if the burden of defending the world fell solely on the shoulders of powered individuals a new cast in society would be created. While right now the world is focused on the invaders, when the dust settles if the dust settles, new problems will be created.

I get to choose the ability? Then fight, because I'd give myself supportive powers. Either buffing, healing or crowd control. Maybe something useful for crafting or infrastructure. So there'd be no need for me to go to the "front" front.

If I get a random weird power it depends on how creative I could get with it, but I'd sure as hell milk them for every benefit I can get in both cases.

Really depends on how fun it is to use my power. If it's fulfilling enough, I'd be willing to risk my life. If it's a power I hate using? You'll see me trying to dodge that draft. Or maybe you won't see me depending on how effectively I can dodge it.
