Why on earth do people keep posting so much fanfiction on Scribble Hub when 'fanfiction.net' (ffn) and 'Archive of our own' (ao3) exist for that exact purpose? I come to Scribble Hub and Royal Road to read original stories with original premises and worldbuilding. If I feel like reading fanfiction I head to ffn or ao3. On the home screen of Scribble Hub I've seen no less than 3 fanfiction on the trending tab today. I understand fanfiction is a genre you can pick, but it shouldn't be so prevalent that it makes it harder to find new original stories on the home screen. At least not on 'Scribble Hub - The Home of Original Stories'. Maybe make another tab dedicated to Fanfiction? Or make stubs that refer the reader to ffn to ao3? Maybe I'm overreacting, but this seems a bit much.

You're definitely over reacting. It's fine as is, but if I had to give a reason for sceibblehub being popular for fanfictions over ao3/fanfiction.net, it's cause the UI/UX for the later two kinda suck in comparison to scribblehub or royalroad.

Community.

The SH has its own feel compared to FF.net and AO3. I don't know if there is a feature to block out tags, but if one exists you can use it.

As a philosophical thing to think about - You make a setpiece. That's original. Someone else makes a setpiece. That's original for them but not for you, but what about an arrangement of setpieces that you didn't build? Is that arrangement original because you put in the creative work to put them in that specific fashion that hasn't been done before, or not original because you used an element you didn't source yourself? If not original, at what resolution does it not matter? (to make it absurd, imagine having to re-invent chemicals because oxygen is not original.)

Fanfiction LOVES to hide in that margin, and it can be absolutely infuriating. I would meditate on those feelings, and maybe you have a hardline belief that drives your reaction (I would understand, I have those too), or maybe you don't, but your emotions being like this suggest that this is a subject worth thinking on for you.

  1. Go to Homepage
  2. Click Your profile picture
  3. There will be menus, click Release Filtering
  4. Find "Fanfiction" in the genre tags
  5. And then click the box to make it green, and then click again to make it red. As the instructions suggest, you can click twice to block the genre.
  6. Click on the "Save Settings"

Because ff.net is a bad site and AO3 doesn't have the same feel. Plus there aren't that many fanfics, compared to original stories

Crossposting your story in other writing sites help you gain more exposure regardless of the genre. Fanfiction itself is a genre on its own. It's basically amateur fiction writing that takes as its basis a “canon” of “original” material. You might also gain different feedbacks depending on where you crosspost it.

AO3 also tends to trend a bit more towards horny fanfics

Fanfiction.net is somewhat difficult to use as the user interface is outdated compared to the user interface of scribblehub.com. I do not use AO3.org, so I can not compare that site to scribblehub.com. But I do not think that the number of fanfics on this site can actually compete with the amount of original stories that are present here.

https://www.scribblehub.com/release-filtering/

Start using it. And start browsing instead of relying only on what is on trending.
I do use it. I'm not bothered by Fanfiction. I'm bothered when I see a good fanfiction here on trending that I couldn't find after scrolling though ffn for 3 hours. It's like finding a pizza flavoured biscuit in a packet of cheddar Shapes. I like both, but why the hell is it in the wrong bag?

Oh well, I now know the answer so I guess it doesn't matter.
