Fanfiction.net and fictionpress has a commission scam problem

people sending reviews and messages, praising your work and asking to make a comic/art of your story. They praise your work, detailed characters and setting, say they have ideas they want to share their and want you to pay them.

My question is has there been any of them popping up here?

I think that may have happened to me for the third one. Now that I think about it. The first two made an offer, one of them showed me their art styles and whatnot.

Though, the third deleted their information from my comment section. Which was weird.

Yeah, and they always have AI-generated profile pictures, which would make no sense if they were an actual artist, which immediately made me realize it was a scam of some sort. Insane the indian scamming agencies are coming all the way here looking for victims now. There's no safe place in the internet anymore.

A user from Fanfiction.net found out they are from Pakistan

Not as far as I know. On fanfic net they are really common. Got at least 20 of them in the past weeks.

I got called out on RR by someone trying to sell me art pictures. In hindsight, I might've been too polite, the way I discussed in a lengthy way how sorry I am that I currently can't take any pictures in my stories. Turns out, they just wanted to sell me stuff from their catalog.

I've had people claiming to have read my works on here approach me on other sites, like X and bsky with the same spiel. I always tell them the same thing. You approach me, it's fanart. That means I don't pay. If you WANT to draw my characters, go ahead. I'll post it with credit. If I approach you, it's commissioned art, which means I do pay. Because that's how commissions work. I don't require your work and having your work will NOT help my fanbase grow.

You know, I'm not quite sure. I think my covers in itself are fine and somewhat established by now. I wouldn't quite know how I'd integrate further pictures in the already existing chapters. Also, I treat my writing mostly as a hobby, and would like to keep business stuff out of it.

I don’t see em much on there. I don’t read on FFN or other sites. I used to get them on Wattpad too. Mostly just WN ppl in my DMs. I never got comments on my stories. Other than RR.

Granted this was 7 years ago. I don’t really write anymore. I just mostly draw now.

I got it only two or three times, personally, and people occasionally complain about it on Reddit too. Nor sure how common it actually is, but their moderation blocks and deletes those accounts if reporter.
