Have you guys ever felt true enlightenment during writing? It feels like you have truly combined with a character and see the world truly as it truly is through their eyes. There is a sense of ecstasy as you do it.
To give an example of what I mean by true enlightenment, one night, really struggling with the first chapter of one of my side stories, I just was not connecting with the main character. Then boom! I made an understanding with my MC, falling into their madness. Just imagine a kid rocking back and forth, absolutely off their rocker as they chilled within the characters' demented mind and world. Tongue lolling out and incessantly biting and scratching myself, I had fully submerged myself within the character. Dazed and heady with the rush of their insanity... it was beautiful! The words flowed onto the digital page, and the creativity was beyond just getting in the flow. Admittedly, it had a detrimental impact on my mental health for almost two weeks after because of the character it was with. My inclinations for self-harm far increased. My arms don't look as good as they used to. Oh well!
Enlightenment is one of my favorite things regardless! You guys experience it? What was it like?

That was a wild ride... Anyway

There was a time that I genuinely cried because of a plot point that I made up in my head, I didn't even write it yet.

This is why I cannot in good faith recommend method writing to this degree. If you are self harming you should dial back how much you are acting as a character. The character shouldn't harm the writer. The writer should harm the character.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it 'enlightenment', but there are times where I'm writing and get a very satisfied feeling at what I just wrote. Like when a scene I built up to finally plays out and you feel like your wrote a satisfying climax to that specific plot thread. Or when you have an emotional moment between two characters and you feel like you succeeded in conveying their thoughts and feelings well to the reader.

LOL!… Anyway!
I haven’t had a moment of enlightenment from sadness yet. That’s pretty cool!

Those are still pretty Stars darn satisfying! It’s definitely sweet catharsis when things play out like that. Finishing an arc is an absolutely wonderful thing!

I have had the sadness 'enlightenment'. I wrote a whole chapter crying because I put myself in my MC's shoes, but what's funny is that she was in my shoes. So it was like some inception sadness.

Ever heard the phrase “Anything for sake of one’s art.”? Sometimes, I think these ideas just need to come into the world, however they are kicking and screaming as they exit their parent.:blob_paint: Like a caterwauling baby, you know? I’m sure @K5Rakitan understands that those children just need to come out.:blob_joy::blob_cookie:
Granted, I think that phrase is often used by serial killers in movies and TV…:blob_ghost::blobspearpeek: Those people ruin a perfectly good method!:blob_catflip::blob_catflip::blob_catflip:@AliceShiki do you use that phrase, you stabby-stabby girl?

If you randomly connect that deeply with main characters, I must request that you please write about more mentally health main characters.
