"Dropped Story" - When and Why?

Hiya,

New to Scribblehub, and discovering the features and Statistics bit on the author's series page.

I was wondering, when a series is listed as "Dropped" by a reader, is there a way of knowing where in the story they dropped? It'd be useful info - like, if most readers give uo at the same point on the story, it'd be a good insight and place to focus revision.

It is up to the reader, so at best, you can ask them, but I don't think they would answer you.

When dropping a story, having an optional textbox where the reader can enter a few sentences, visible only to the author would potentially be a helpful feature.

You can hide it in your setting, but most people won't be checking.

If you know who dropped your story and their reading list is public, you can see the status where they left off in there. Assuming they kept it up to date.

You can see views. If there is a sharp decline that's essentially the same thing. I don't need to know someone decided they hate that I have a female lead and decided to drop it.

Especially if you have any sort of smut/r-18/romance tag and it isn't also GL.


Or especially if there's multiple perspectives and one of them is female.

As Thraben said, yes they do. All the time. Sometimes I get told off by angry readers for other things I include in the tags and blurb as well. Honestly, I'm just so tired of dealing with people nowadays.

Eh, I don't know if I'd call them evil. It's mostly just that people don't seem to understand how much effort goes into writing if they never try it for themselves so they can be overly critical. Other times it's people who skim rather than read or who don't have English as a language they are fluent in, which leads to misunderstandings on their part.

Even on here I get weird comments asking about slime girls and tentacles in a story with the closest thing being cute round blue slimes. No amount of saying I'm uncomfortable makes the original and new commentors seem to stop furthering the conversation either. I'm just trying to write a cutesy story and don't need all of that perverted nonsense.

It would be useless to know the 'when' i think. For example, when i drop it's generally not from a single reason or chapter. It's a process of dissatisfaction that builds up, think of it like a health bar. When that bar gets depleted i don't really drop immediately either, i generally skim forward to see if it gets any better, and sometimes it does. You would just be left confused if you were able to see what chapter i dropped.

As for the 'why', unless the person leaves a comment there is no way to know, and i wouldn't push it by messaging them. There are two reasons someone might not want to leave a comment when dropping, they either don't care enough to waste their time and brain power, or they don't want to hurt your feelings by ranting. Either way, you aren't gonna be getting good feedback if you push it.

Is there a glimmer of romance?

The Dangerously Cute Dungeon is a bittersweet story when it comes to romance. It starts off with the MC and her husband dying from *spoilers* and then only she is reincarnated into another world where she becomes a dungeon master. Due to special circumstances when she dreams she relives her past memories, which I explored in the second volume some before mostly discontinuing the dream sequences due to being unpopular. Then in the third volume due to *spoilers* she gets a *spoilers* that allows her to communicate with the memory of her dead husband. The antagonist of that volume and the next also has an elven man who pursues her romantically, but he is actually an antagonist because of *spoilers*. That's why I generally mark the story as tragedy, but the rest of it is mostly cutesy wholesomeness with darkness lurking around every corner, but rarely dwelled on.

The Innkeeper's Dungeon will take a while to get to that point, but I plan to include a single love interest. However, the relationship will be a bit dark to match the darker themes of the story. I don't write anything too dark, so you can also expect plenty of laid back innkeeping vibes, but I plan to make the MC a bit crazy and bloodthirsty after volume one ends. It'll be a weird, but interesting balance between the two.

If you're looking for romance my Her Beasts series is a reverse harem shifter romance with city building and management in a primitive beastworld. You get seven male leads, lots of laid back vibes due to the slice-of-life characteristics of the story and it still has a quest system with rewards!

Any of my other romance series I wrote a decade and a half ago and don't have much pride in, but I've had others enjoy it if you really want to read them.
