It has been a long time since I've logged on and I doubt anyone remembers my last art thread.

While I can still improve if I continue to use the mouse, I feel like I would improve a lot faster if I use a tablet.
I also somehow injured my wrist and have been getting symptoms of carpal tunnel so I don't think I should be using the mouse to draw currently.
I'm thinking of getting a one by wacom. Does anyone perhaps know how long the pen nibs last as I don't think I can buy them from local stores.

I would like feedback on my work, but I don't think it's good enough to get feedback professionally and I don't know where else to get it without being annoying.

It is nice to see the forums are still fairly active and my title changed to well-known member despite lurking the whole time. I don't think I have enough messages to change my title either.

Well, for feedback, I'll just say that these look reaaaaaaaally good. :blob_okay:

In the last drawing, I'm just wondering where the right eye went... was she winking?

getting symptoms of carpal tunnel
I am not a professional artist, but I am a nurse. Please get this checked and treated correctly if you have not. If not, it can lead to many problems, including permanent nerve damage. And that might stop you from continuing your career. And may mess up daily life tasks, so I urge you to rest and find the root of the problem with your doctor.:sweating_profusely:

Your art is too pretty for that to happen. Honestly, I find it amazing. To do that with a mouse, wow I am astonished. I hope your health gets better so you can keep creating amazing pieces! :blob_aww:

Yeah she was winking. I couldn't be bothered to draw that eye as it was my last piece before I get a tablet.

I didn't think it was going to be that serious. I'll have it checked if the symptoms appear again.

What do you mean? That IS professional quality. Especially that last drawing. You have a very fantastical, dreamlike quality to your work that's quite appealing.

Get a HUION drawing pad instead. It's a much cheaper option. If you'd like a drawing pad direct to screen, I'd recommend Huion Kamvas 13. I bought one for around $250.

Yeah, I know the feeling of your arms acting up from fatigue due to drawing with the mouse. I say the drawing tab makes a world of difference in both speed and convenience. There will be spare drawing nibs included in a package.

Huion is to Android, whereas Wacom is to Apple—one is a hell of a lot cheaper than the other, yet they have the same functions.

Pen nibs can last you for years. It will depend on the strenght you apply on the tablet. By my experience (and since I have a "heavy hand" so I use a lot of pressure uncounsciously), one nib usually lasts me a bit more than 6 months. But, all my other friends (who are professional artists), have used their nibs for years and have never switched them. Some do say they switch every 3 years and so.
It is a bit on how you will work, so it will vary.

And I can tell you, I have been drawing with a Wacom Intuos S for over a year now and it is great. It was just 80€ and it is great for beginners! At least that's what I think ~

And yes you will. I've never drawn with a mouse before but I've done traditional art and I can tell you that Digital Art, specially with a tablet, will give a lot more freedom and it is easier to learn from your mistakes and so on.

Also, I don't know which program you are thinking of getting (or even if you already have it) but I personally advise Paint Tool Sai. I think it's great for begginers. On the other hand, if you are intending to make Art for a living then focus on learning Photoshop since it is the greatest (but hardest to learn) tool out there (in my opinion).

I would like feedback on my work, but I don't think it's good enough to get feedback professionally and I don't know where else to get it without being annoying.
Well I am not a professional either, I only do some art as a hobby but I can say that I am already quite impressed. I would NEVER be able to draw what you did with a mouse, NEVER.
Even then if I had to "critique" I would say that in your last pannel, your hands and feet need a little improvement (they look a bit messy) and the knees should have a bit more shadow so it become clear the division between the upper thigh and the lower. I also think that she doesn't look like the is sitting down due to the position of the dress (what I mean is, the back part doesn't fall onto the steps when it should). And you can only see one eye, I looked closer and noticed there is a second eye but it is so light that with the blonde hair + pale skin, you can barely see it at a first glance.
On the second pannel I just feel like something's wierd with the face. Maybe the eyes are too upwards? I dunno, something feels off.
On your fifth panel I think you should change the eyelashes color to something darker because, with the pink hair and pink-ish skin, you can't quite see them.
I love all the other ones and, with my experience, I can't seem to find anything that is worth mentioning since they are absolutely marvellous!
Keep in mind this is my opinion, you are free to do what you wish as a artist! Hope I helped though :blob_hug:

And take care of your health. Drawing with a pad can still damage your wrist so don't overdo it! :blobtaco:

Depends on the model. Previous pens had thicker nibs and lasted longer. The new Pro Pen 2 (8k pressure levels) has thinner nibs than the previous one and shaves down in the first few days and I consider my hand pressure light. I don’t change the nib although the tip isn’t round anymore. Still works.

we had a long thread about graphic tablets in this forum, just use search

I would like feedback on my work,

I'll give you mine:
- You clearly put a lot of effort into each piece to be a standalone, completed work. That's amazing. As art, each one of them are great.
- On the technical aspect, your skills look very balanced. You've got a hold of everything: composition, anatomy, perspective, color, light. I'm especially impressed by your ability to combine ALL of them with the mouse lol.
- On the flipside, you've got a lot of room for improvement across all aspects. I think the harshest issue you have right now is the contrast control. It's essential for the readability of the painting subject.

More precise feedbacks would require instant chat (rather than forum threads) to discuss what were your intents (to distinguish stylistic choices from errors).

Do you only train by doing complete drawings like that? Because that sounds a bit like doing full sized 4 hours multi-disciplinary exams instead of training on the small targeted exercises. It sounds masochistic to me, because it's purposely putting yourself at the very limit of ALL your skills constantly. I wouldn't find it fun to smash myself against a bunch of problems I can barely solve, and I'm a truck mind you.

I don't think it's good enough to get feedback professionally
I think that it shouldn't be the quality of your art that determine whether it's worth getting professional feedback. Rather, it should be about how bad you want to improve.

And in fact, because you've got some understanding of all aspects of drawing, you would really benefit from external guidance.

Alright, I don't wanna put pressure on you, but we're all eager to see what happens when you get a tablet ? :blob_teehee:
