Just continuing on from the last one. For those who don’t know I’m just spitballing since I can’t get anything done without writing but also don’t want to write a draft on chapters until I get an idea on the story. Easiest way is to write it down.
I tend to change stuff mid writing which changes my plan in real-time.
—————————
Jordan Fisher was regressed in time after reaching an impossible state of power for a brief moment. Strong enough to destroy the entire universe if he had properly succeeded in tapping into this power. Alas, he could never replicate it.
His personal Innate Gift, Taboo Romanticist, had been reset after going back into the past. With only the copy of Taboo Gamer, his lifelong enemy’s Innate Gift, still being retained in his arsenal. Meaning that Bryan had also followed.
The first thing he did after waking up was look at his surroundings. He was at his own Awakening Ceremony and was being congratulated by his parents. A familiar scene that had been lost in his mind, as this was one of his past life’s failures.
Originally, he had panicked and became completely closed off after waking up in such a young body. His past life wasn’t easy, but he felt the loss of his Earth parents a lot. Being unable to accept his new life in this unfamiliar world.
It was only after they died did he realise the significance of their presence. Being forced to become a soldier for the city early in life due to an incident within the city. A horrifying serial killing with a culprit that remained elusive.
Once he realised there wasn’t much time left until the incident that killed his parents occurred in the original timeline, he quickly assessed how to save them with complete certainty. Looking around to find someone who could protect them.
Fighting the criminal himself in a few months as a five year old was insane no matter how talented he was. Young bodies couldn’t handle Mana efficiently even if they had experience and knowledge. The best he could do was prepare.
Therefore, he needed to make contact with that teacher. After all, he remembered her personality being endearing and ready to help anyone regardless of their background. The only problem was this was way before she became a teacher.
She should be a student of Hope Academy at the moment. A place destined to fall after the city is infiltrated and attacked by Magic Beasts. This incident happening at a similar timing to the serial killings. He weighed his options clearly.
To approach his future teacher, Anya Orchid, he first got close to his parents and little sister. With his new understanding of his power, Jordan was able to easily acquire new abilities. His parents having unique Innate Gifts as former soldiers.
He started to investigate the current era with them.
Jane and Armin Fisher were both retired soldiers who were the last batch of ‘Mages’ artificially occurring in this era. Thanks to the Governor’s help In creating new technology, the new gen were a predicted to be stronger than the old.
People of his parent’s generation couldn’t naturally awaken Innate Gifts, so they could only choose artificially created ones that were weaker and less useful than natural Innate Gifts. They also didn’t have the new tech supplied to Hops Academy students and their level of potential.
Although progress was what would protect the city in the long run, a lot of veteran soldiers had become disregarded by the government in order to usher in new blood. Barely considered worthy of teaching the new generation of soldiers.
Jordan quickly came to learn that his father was actually a teacher at Hope Academy. Although not directly teaching students, he was involved in helping them understand Mana and the process of utilising it with Martial Arts. It was his role.
That made him more cautious.
His parents weren’t weak. Maybe not stronger than the new Academy students, but they should have been strong enough to survive. The only thing he remembered from the time was being separated after running away from home.
When he came back, his house was on fire.
Whether they died due to the fire or someone using a fire type Innate Gift was unknown, but he remembered the face of the culprit clearly. It was also an instructor of the academy. One who had a good reputation until his misdeeds were found.
Farmac Craven was a magic professor. Unlike his father who taught martial arts, this man was a decorated veteran that had achieved much more in his service than any other. A genius in magic that surpassed those ‘average’ in his generation.
This included his father.
Regardless, something was fishy about this.
Professor Farmac alone shouldn’t be the only one involved in this major incident. This wasn’t only an attack that killed his parents, but had also lead to the slaughter of many ancient clans and families. Including that of the ‘protagonist’.
‘Road of the Dauntless’ only started after a new academy was built on the remains of the old. If he changed the future, then the butterfly effect would render all his future knowledge obsolete. The knowledge of the Visual Novel the game was based on would also lose it relevance.
This incident was THAT important.
It set the protagonist on the path of revenge, but also served to empower him after the ancestor of his clan returned to train him. Fritz Lazrik was this world’s first main character, and his role in the future scenarios was irreplaceable.
Wouldn’t interfering be the same as a mistake?
Even so, Jordan couldn’t allow his parents to die a second time. If fate couldn’t be changed, then all his future knowledge would’ve been useless anyway. He chose to ask about the Lazrik Clan and do what he could to defuse a bomb waiting to explode there.
After all, he was old enough to go to a training facility for youngsters at his age. Feigning that he had gotten close with Fritz Lazrik when he was there. Even though his memory before the age of 5 was blurry at best.
He needed to do everything he could to uncover the secrets of this incident. Thwart it before it could lead to a massive disaster. Unexpectedly, he encountered someone he had been wanting to find this whole time. Bryan Wallkin found him.
“You lost your powers.” The psychopath quickly determined, but chose not to fight.
“What do you want?” Jordan clenched his fist.
“Are you planning on interfering with such an important event? Don't you have my powers now? All you have to do is what I did. Help hunt Magic Beasts by leaving the city and return when you’re ready. We don’t have any power just yet.”
Despite their outstanding abilities, Taboo Gamer could only grow through killing and Taboo Romanticist required time to interact with people heart-to-heart. They couldn’t handle this incident.
“Do you want to die a second time?” Even though these were words without the strength to back them up, Jordan’s rage had caused quite the serious damage to Bryan’s psyche. Faltering after seeing those eyes filled with inhumanity.
“Then let’s split up. There are two main characters that need help and you can only be in one place at a time right now. I’ll deal with the Wolfheart siblings and their clan. You continue what you were doing at the Lazrik Clan.”
“I don’t trust you.”
“You don’t have to. Just know that I’ve already made mistakes I won’t repeat. For now, I’m not your real enemy. Let’s at least agree on that. You can trust that I wouldn’t try to sabotage you when both our livelihoods are on the line.”
“Fine... You better contact me later.”
Unfortunately, Bryan was right about him not being able to split his efforts. Apart from Lex Lindblum (who would appear later), the rest of the main characters were scattered around the city. He couldn’t deal with two incidents at once.
Moreover, the nature of the incidents differed.
There was a girl in the Lazrik Clan who was about to awaken as a Cursed Entity. Difficult to handle due to her being powerful. Yenna Lazrik was a case of being misfortunate. Having her mind distorted by the power she had gained.
Comparatively, the Wolfheart Clan was disposed of by a traitorous descendant. Jordan may not like Bryan whatsoever, but he admitted that evil was the best counter to other evils. He was better suited to deal with such a wicked person.
They put aside their differences to work together at this moment.
Jordan knew that Bryan wasn’t an ally, but he was more than ready to act if the situation called for it.
—————
Well, this is the abrupt end for this segment of the story and now understand where to start the foreshadowing for this event. I’m getting a better idea on where the story should go.
