So, I wrote a fantasy novel (80+ chapters) and I'm not really sure if this website is right for me. I saw a lot of litrpg and anime-like stories, something I don't write. It's a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, in the sense that the story takes place in the future, but instead of having advanced technology, the people in my world use magic (called Lumina, it's a sort of energy, flowing through everyone born in Chowana. They use it as energy for their cars,...). The story takes place in Chowana, a country divided into three parts:
-Utra (people with no Lumina, they use the same technology as the Old World = our world)
-Chowa (people who can manipulate Lumina. Some of them are pretty weak and can only use Lumina to drive cars, others are stronger and can manipulate people's body)
-The palace (where the royal family lives)
The story sets place in Utra and it talks about a boy, heir of the biggest crime syndicate in the city. He doesn't have any powers. the second MC is a girl, who can steal memories but every time she does so, she loses one of her own memories.
One day, the sacred rules, which ensure the peace between the three big crime syndicate in Utra, are broken and the two MC's have to work together to prevent a war.
The reason I'm not sure if it's suitable for this platform is mainly that I don't know if it's 'fantasy' enough and because I don't have an anime-looking cover. Some friends of mine say that Wattpad is better, but there it's impossible to get feedback.
What do you guys think?

A. Spam the hell out by creating same account in multiple platforms.
B. Post the story up here and see if it works, because seriously, I am not a researcher or avid critic, if I like, I like. If not, I drop.

Your story would work just fine. If you want to stay on the trending page, just release your chapters two at a time.

Thanks, I'm just looking for feedback on my work and I am scared no one is going to click on it (especially because my cover isn't anime-like)

This, you can see the general trend just by looking at which tag's popular. You might find it hard to gain traction, but it'll sell if you just continue being consistent and continue telling a good story

Ah, there's no list of popular tags per se, though you can get a grasp of it by looking at type of stories that are trending. IMO, fanfiction, gender bender, comedy, smut, and japanese-inspired novels are the hottest right now

As long as it's something that won't get on a blacklist, it's fine. Literally anything goes here. It's a wild west of creative literary content.

One of my stories is extremely similar to yours. And I post it on this website with little issue. As long as you write well, and update frequently enough, you’ll be alright.

@RanahAlmaze I think you'll be fine. I haven't really read one whole story thoroughly on SH yet, but my reading list is filled with stories that are not isekai, smut, litrpg stuff. So there's quite a few fantasy novels on here too. They're just not as popular though.

Just post your work on SH if you want. It won't hurt to broadcast on more than one writing platform and get more publicity for your stories, if you want more readers. Maybe you'll hit a niche within that platform. It would be interesting to read your work. ;)

Yeah, wattpad is decent bc it has so many books, it has a lot many interesting genres, if you dig into it enough.

I think that you'll find people who are interested in your work. I want more Sci fi and fantasy on the site. I want people who are creating their own unique interesting worlds.

I plan on releasing like minded Sci fi and fantasy on the site, so your in good company.

But that's also the problem with Wattpad. It has been around for so long and the market is so flooded. On SH, if you have something that stands out from the norm, I think you get more love from readers.

If you want to post it, post it. It would be good to have more varieties of genuine fantasy novels here. The more contemporary fantasy there is, the more it attracts that kind of crowd, which means more people will read Ai-chan's stories.

Ai-chan is sure that Tony would be happy to get more varieties too. Currently, this place has been populated mostly by the rejects of RRL and Wattpad, so getting more new blood unrelated to either one would be great. Many of those litrpg thingies were reposts by those from RRL hoping for more audience in a newer platform.

I agree with that. If you want to have some more variety, write your story. Contribute to making more varieties on SH. Maybe it'll gather a following and other writers would also write something in similar/different genres that haven't been fully popularized on here.

Talking about genuine fantasy, I had a question about my cover. Does my cover looks like a fantasy cover? (some said that it was more thriller-)

That looks badass awesome. Yeah for sure. Smells like fantasy, although more of a medieval epic one. Idk about sci-fi.

This cover would be the type that get me interested in clicking on it to see if the story is interesting and i should read more.

Reminds me of Wattpad. People there really do have interesting beautiful covers. Quite a bit of people designing covers for others too. Still haven't found writing platform that makes as beautiful covers as that place does.

Thanks! There is actually a forum, made after the wattpad forum was shut down, with really talented people (it's called wackywriters.com). So if you want a good cover, be sure to check it out. The people are really friendly

Frankly, Ai-chan thinks you went overboard. Ai-chan isn't fond of the background, but it could work as a fantasy. Different people have different impressions. If they think the style looks more thriller, they'd probably be right, because they probably have seen the same thing before.

That being said, Ai-chan thinks you have a bigger problem:
1) The colour of the foreground (texts and ornaments) are too similar to the background's symbols.
2) The text is too thin
3) The background is too uniformed (which probably contributed to people thinking it's a thriller)

What this means is, it's hard for people to see the text and also makes your cover look boring and easily missed. Imagine a brown curtain, in a brown room, with wooden furnitures and ornaments. The room would not look classy even if the furniture is classy, because it just looks drab, making people think that your colour-blind grandma designed the room. If you inherited this room from your grandma, you could instead change the curtain into maybe green coloured curtain and if you have extra money, maybe you can change the furnitures placed right against the brown walls into mahogany or at least black-painted wood. The furniture at the center of the room can remain brown, but you need contrast.

Returning to your cover, adding contrasts would do you good since it's too monochrome. The monochrome makes your readers unsure of where to look. Because the whole thing makes readers wonder if there's something else written somewhere else. You're probably looking for that high-fantasy LotR look, but the monochrome makes it look drab and overboard. But then again, the whole epic look doesn't seem to fit your story, which is a contemporary fantasy set in modern times.

Maybe you can instead change the colour of the foreground from tan/cream (or is that bronze?) to gold or silver. You know, put some contrast into it. How about using bold fonts as well because as it stands, it's hard to see the smaller letters?

That's what Ai-chan would suggest. Unfortunately, changing the epic fantasy look to contemporary fantasy look would probably cause you to lose money considering you need to redo a lot of things. So just change the colour and the font for the smaller texts.
