Does anyone secretly pay homage to their previous work?

You saw the question, and yes I do.
Characters like Tavis and the protagonist are based off a lost draft.
The Zurr and having Universum Inspiratum also refer to itself as the system, that's just me paying respect, to myself.

Well, the world I used in my story is essentially the same world I created with my brother when we were starting to write. Not much came of it apart from the worldbuilding, but still.
Also, one of my characters is shown in pretty much every single novel I ever wrote, just in other forms. Does that count as well? Because her origin is almost in my child fantasies, and she has just adapted to the stories I'm writing now.

I don't.

But I did collaborate with my brother and his work. Pretty cool...only, his work is yet to be published.

Absolutely!!! if I were of any importance as an author, readers would quickly see how I ret-con my old work to put in the new stuff.

Readers: Wasn't this character a bounty hunter in your old story.......(two novels later) ....and now she's a Valkyrie???

Me:  :blob_reach:

Yep. I try not to go too ham over it, but I do have little mentions / allusions to previous stories.

I actually actively avoid crossing any elements from any of my ongoing works. I get into a specific, fragile mental phase when writing chapters for specific series where if I get even a hint of an invading, foreign idea into it, that mental phase shatters and I find myself struggling to even put 100 words down. I even actively avoid looking at art and sketches I made from any character that isn't in the current series I'm working on then to mitigate all risk.

It's to the point where I have had an unfinished chapter sitting on my bookmarks right now because I simply had the idea of drawing a comic of a guy fucking two spiders from Minecraft and now the Docs file last touched since February and I've not only finished said spider-fucking comic (17 pages) but completed another comic immediately after (22 pages) and beginning work on a new one involving the Enderman from, you guessed it, Minecraft. You can check out the second completed comic here to prove I'm not pulling your leg (it's not porn, don't worry).

I'm so easily thrown off my groove that I wonder if I have ADHD.

I have the thing I've been scribbling random parts into for a year now. The characters specifically being the Main guy and the now first major villain. Originally they were going to be a buddy-cop type thing before I branched that out to the superhero story I vent in. I was taking the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers handshake meme and have the story focus on that. Now instead of the best of gym bro's and friends the MC became his own thing once I gave him a family at the start instead. Carl rip-off became an african warlord that is now a villain.

Another was a slice of life thing I never went anywhere with. It was going to be the first thing I'd publish until I realized I had no idea what I was going to do with it. The only points I had going for it was: guy transmigrates, he scams his way into a cheap property infested with a dungeon so he could have a home before he burned through his money(a diamond mouth-grill), he abuses modern farming methods using a resource from the dungeon everyone glances over (the dirt within it), gets a strong-willed female guard that hates his demeanor, MC uses a hammer because he can't be bothered to learn a real fighting style, random kid he adopts and teaches stuff, no idea why he's been taken to another world until stuff starts happening closer to home.

Now I cannibalize everything. Dungeon stuff and farming is for a second story I want to write that is a bit smoother than being action focused. The guard I was thinking of adding her in to what I'm writing now but, she doesn't really fit the setting. Think tsundere that isn't overbearing yet lovable. Taking time to be away from everyone is how I got the start for my current zombie MC. Instead of just because he has money and can abuse modern knowledge, it became a safety and security thing. Random kid became the kid for the bro story in the first paragraph.

If it's part of shared universe or in a series then yes. Otherwise eh? Hmm...

I do, I have this one character that I created a very long time ago, I forgot exactly when or how, she just existed.

With her in mind, I attached her to a fanfic as a random passerby oc.
With her in mind, I made her into a love interest in a personal draft story that hasn't been released.
With her in mind, she's made into a side character in my fantasy story
With her in mind, she's dwelling somewhere in my current work.

She takes many names, many forms and many outward personalities, but she's always there.

Sometimes, I go back and try and feel the feelings, yknow? Some pieces are loaded with anger, and hate. They burn, still, that when I read them, I remember the fire. That's what I like to write.

Also, I have particular female character set that I like. I always come back to it bc its fun.
