Do you have any tips to increase your writing speed?

So, I'm currently uploading two novels daily, each with an average of 2000 words per chapter. I don't mind spending the hours I spend writing both. But I feel like my writing speed has been stuck for a long time. Do you have any tips to break through that limit?

I always thought listening to music would make me write faster, but turns out, it was the opposite. I write faster in total silence. That's just me, though.

Another method I've been trying is to take a break every few hundred words. I would go read one or two web novel chapters before coming back. It works quite well so far.

I can suggest that you:

1). Find your comfort zone whenever you are writing.
2). Leave your phone. Do not pick it up while writing.
3). If you are typing on computer, you may listen to you favorite music. Classical music or lo-fi can help as well.
4). Self-discipline. Try not to open any social media site.
5). If you are a gamer, you may have to isolate yourself from gaming in a span of time.
6). Maybe try to have a writing goal/deadline, which you need to follow, no excuses.

If you're not procrastinating, which is a symptom of an ever bigger problem (not just laziness), then you might need focus. My suggestions above is how I get myself to focus.

What is your limitation? Time, motivation, writingspeed, creativity?
without knowing that it might be hard to give any tip.

Hm. This post was more about the speed at which you type. However, this is really good advice! Some of them I actually follow, 1,2,3,4,5 I do, while six is sometimes difficult to properly set up. Hahahaha. Well, "one chapter a day" could be considered a writing goal~.

My fingers! They don't move as fast as I would like them to! hahahah. While in those type racer things, I can reach around 75wpm, I think it's below average for a writer.

Ah well, whatever works for you. You can mix-match my suggestion and other advises, as long as it can help you. The goal 'a chapter a day' is only applicable to me whenever I'm in my 'writing mood', which--in line--with my suggestions, takes me about 4 weeks to do.

As for the typing speed...hmm, I suggest you try the applications that develops your typing speed. It's pretty similar to my college training, which involved power-typing (minus the professor, lol), hence my wpm is around 150-200.

Ah yes, you can also try copying letter formats, including spaces. Don't look at the keyboard while typing (and eyes on the letter). It can greatly help your hand develop muscle memory of where letters are. But you really need to master which finger will press certain letters in the keyboard first. Typing apps can help you with that.

You can also try what we did in college. We created a practice keyboard (copied it on an illustration board), and practiced typing there. It's for memorizing which letter you'll type on a certain finger (if you can't practice on a computer).

I don't know what format of keyboard you are using, but here's what you should try to master (on a Qwerty keyboard):

Left pinky: Q, A, Z, Left Shift
Left ring finger: W, S, X
Left middle finger: E, D, C
Left index finger: R, F, V, T, G
Thumbs: space bar
Right index finger: Y, H, V, B, J, U,
Right middle finger: I, K, N
Right ring finger: O, L, M
Right pinky: P, ; , . Enter button and Right Shift

If you're going to type capitalized letters using left hand, use right shift. For capitalized letters on the right hand, use left.

Default finger position would be on the ASDF (left hand) and JKL; (right), basically the middle row of letters. This is so you'll have easy access on top and bottom letter rows. This is also why some keyboards have an embossed indicator on F and J, since your index fingers will be your 'guide' for the default position.

Would also recommend you practice on a typewriter, but in a hindsight, don't. I always break keyboards due to my heavy typing before, until I got used to computer keyboards. ??

I find that hot coals and whips can increase the speed of writers. Proper motivational background music can help as well.

Failing that, just have a small notebook by your side. Or an app on your cell phone to capture stray ideas. Good ideas, bad ideas, etc. Then when you are ready to sit down and write again you can go through your notes and decide what to use. Do not delete any of the ideas you have taken in your notebook though. They may be useful later or can provide inspiration for something else down the line.

I'll keep that in mind, hahaha. Thank you for taking your time!

If it's about typing speed, learn Touch Typing and practice: https://www.typingclub.com/

You should be typing without looking at the keyboard ever. XD

Edit: I looked back up and saw you already type at 75wpm. Lol. That's above average. So I'm sure with more practice you'll get to the 90 to 100 range. XD
