Do people post short stories here as well? Or is it only long format stories?

I've written a few short stories (for contests, based on the Mahabharatha - Indian epic etc.)

Do people usually read stuff like that here? I haven't seen any short stories on this site (or is it just me not looking hard enough?).

Well, they'll read it, but the views will be a few. Don't expect your fiction to garner tens of thousands of views for a single short chapter.

The SH algorithm relies more on visibility, meaning regular updates to a series is more likely to be seen by readers than a short story that only appears for a day... and then fade into the digital abyss.

I've been trying to post short stories ("trying" being the keyword, since I need to actually finish them before I can post them). Some advice I've gotten is that if there are multiple short stories that are connected, like if they take place in the same world, you can make it something like an anthology series. One place, one title, multiple stories. If that's not the case... I dunno what way would work best.

Hopefully, short stories become more popular on this platform. They're really helpful for amateur writers.

I'll definitely try to read more short stories! Gotta support all the short-story lovers (૭ 。•̀ ᵕ •́。 )૭

@Eldoria is right on the money here, but I'm gonna say it in a different way. If you exposed yourself out in public, people are going to look. Exposure. The Hub values exposure for a reason; it attracts attention. You'll get views, and if you have something interesting enough for an audience, you'll get readers. :blob_hide:

People do - I have even. They don't go over as well as longer fiction unless you lump them together in a single work with some kind of unifying theme.

Sure, lots of people write short stories here and pass them off as completed books. They get quite a following. People still love bite-sized entertainment.
