Writing Do niche fetishes help or hinder writing?

This isn’t necessarily about fetishes, but about sex scenes in general, but I find that the majority of stories that have sex scenes implement them poorly. What I mean by this is that every sentence you write should serve a purpose, so a sex scene should serve a purpose within the story. For example, highlighting character development, or being a catalyst for character development, playing a larger role in the greater plot, etc. Sex scenes are kind of like action scenes. Action for action’s sake tends to be un-engaging. The best stories have action scenes that matter both to the characters involved and the world they live in. Sex scenes should be written with a similar intent. Most stories just have gratuitous sex scenes with no thought to properly engaging and investing the reader. If a sex scene can be skipped or easily written out of the story, then is there really a reason to have one in the first place?

This sort of statement is what is guiding my rewrite in the first place. The original was written 10+ years ago and it certainly had redeeming moments, but basically it was just sex scene after sex scene for the first 4 chapters and then the story happened. I've stripped out a lot of that in the rewrite and attempted to make every chapter reveal something poignant or have important character development/revelations. Sex is important to the characters/story however, its a fundamental part of the faction in question. So hopefully that'll be more in line with that.

Naw, none of those. I'm writing at a niche due to the amount of categories it falls under, rather than something like that. 'ere we go, brace yourself. Apologise if this is TMI.

First off its got anthro characters, so thats quite a large split already. Futa's, which are hit or miss. Sci-fi/aliens which seems to be less popular than fantasy from my observations. The main sex scenes i'm refering to are typically Futa on male with size difference/domination aspects. Speaking specificially about the Futa side of it, I think F/M is the least popular of the possible combinations. There is some non-con/rape stuff (Although the rewrite hasn't hit any of these yet) but I tread quite lightly there.

Long story short, huge futa alien on male with some non-con sometimes. Eithers thats gonna gross you out or more likely, its "eh, not my thing" for any number of reasons. I know the people that like that stuff have enjoyed the written work but that circles back to my initial question.

that's some super niche stuff there, IMO. have you considered marketing it to fujoshis and BL fans? seems right up their alley.

You say that but every single artist (especially the korean ones for some insane reason) get popular due to ntr. If you are willing to draw/write furry crap you are much more likely to be making money. It is more about the fanbase you are aiming for.

but the flaw in that reasoning, especially with furry crap, is that a lot of the artists really just see it as a way to money rather than actually liking that shit. you are right though, it depends on who your target audience is. furry and futa, especially futa on male, are quite niche in terms of fetishes (disregarding the size of the furry fanbase)

and you're talking about a futa with a massive dong dicking a guy down. if that's not pure degeneracy I don't know what is. the further down you descend the less palates you'll find. but then again there's a alot of weird shit on the site. owotrucked is doing weird furry docking porn and getting away with it so it might work.
the most important thing imo is to have the MC be the dominant one(so here it'd be the futa).

I suddenly like you quite a lot now ? - I'm still learning boundaries and whatnot, i'd have just called you a dick earlier if I knew you appreciated forwardness! Sorry for the passive approach, I do need to work on taking stuff easier sometimes.

There's no claim here that its not degeneracy, it is. Its self-aware enough and has other positive traits, but it just doesn't matter does it? The story will always be limited by its raw, primary appeal. Eh, i'm happy to hone the craft, its not the only story i'm working on so its not a "eggs in one basket" case. I also enjoy writing it which is a big plus. Just curious if others have found the same, which appears to be the case.
