Previously, the stories from the latest updates of SH that shows in the NU sidebar were the latest updated stories. Each and every one of them. Nowadays it's random. Sometimes a story can be there for an hour or so, and many stories are skipped. When was this updated? I already reported it as a bug a month ago, but no one answered me. Thus I asked this question here. I'm not whining, but I'm curious. I want to know if this is perhaps a new feature that I missed. Maybe I'm missing some info source that tells about these kinds of updates and news of SH?

You have to close out of the browser to refresh it, I think. Otherwise, it will keep the same novels from hours ago.

Could also be cookies.

Have you tried turning SH off and on again?

Jokes aside, if it was reported as a bug and it wasn't fixed, might as well be a feature.

Then the question is, why I've never heard of it? If it wasn't made public, I can understand this. But what if I missed the news of this update? Perhaps someone saw it or know something and can share the knowledge.

Hmmm... that's true. But I think it's better to just wait for a definite answer. No point in over worrying, since it might just be that they haven't had the time to fix this particular issue yet.

There's a new feature that guaranties a series will be up for a set amount of time. For the best I can tell, it is around 10 minutes, which means that in high posting-time periods the ones on NU will be significantly delayed from what's on the latest updates.

As for a series being skipped, it will not put up any series that has "sexual content" in the story. Or, it could also be bad luck with refresh times causing you to miss a series in the 10 minute (maybe?) window where it is up.

Sexual content isn't skipped. Right now, a story with tag r-18 and a 'sexual content' warning is shown. As for the feature you mentioned, I don't know. Stories end up being shown for far longer than 10 minutes.

That... is with you refreshing the page, right?

What do you mean? A month ago, I had people coming from NU. Now it's zero clicks = I'm not being showed here. I specifically timed releases of new chapters of my novel. One time a novel before me was being shown for an hour. I released a chapter, and it didn't appear on the NU sidebar. I did a mass release, not a single time I was on a sidebar. If you look into my thread in bug reports, you can see for yourself that your theory is wrong. I don't know, perhaps it's really my problem? But the thing is, there is another thread with the same bug\feature. And the ten-minute rule is false in both threads.

I'm refreshing a page, not constantly, but like once every ten-fifteen minutes. I may close the browser and open another one(for personal reasons), yet when I visit the NU, the novels don't change. They are shown for twenty, thirty, up to an hour on the NU sidebar. Yeah, sometimes, they refresh in a few minutes, this is true. But sometimes they are stuck there for a very long time. Longer than ten minutes.

If it's about novels not showing up, I really think it is related to the adult tag, but it isn't completely consistent. Almost all novels I've seen with adult tags are skipped. Smut is random, but if it has a lot of chapters, it gets shown. I haven't come across any r18 stuff.

There is a screenshot in my thread in bug reports. The story that was shown on the NU sidebar has an adult tag. Adult+mature+smut+sexual content warning. I also saw novels with the r-18 tag on the NU sidebar. Yet, I didn't screenshot those stories as I wasn't expecting that people won't believe me. After all, it's not like my story is the only one that doesn't appear on the NU sidebar.

I had the same problem once. My story just wouldn't show on NU even though I had none of the adult-tags or genres. I posted to the bug-section and then it got resolved and worked again for the next release. Since this has happened several times to several authors now, I guess there should be some kind of bug behind this but I'm not sure what exactly the problem might be that causes stories to be skipped. I guess for now, you can only report it and have it resolved manually
If you're up for it (or anybody else), maybe you could keep an eye on it for a few days so we can gather some data? That might help out with finding the root problem.

Yep, I was referring to your thread. However, my problem didn't get resolved, and my story still doesn't show up on the NU sidebar. The thing is, perhaps it's a new feature and not a bug? That's the whole point of this thread. Maybe someone knows something. But so far, there was no info. Only speculations. And somehow, those authors that are missing their appearance on NU don't care.

Some people might not realize either. In the mobile version, the stories from SH are shown below everything else over on NU. Some of those users don't even know we are being shown there. So I'm not surprised some authors don't realize they are missing out there. You really only notice if you look for it.
Anyway, I don't think any of the users can do more than guess here.

@Tony, could you weigh in here, please? Is this a bug or some kind of feature? If it's the latter, would you mind telling us what the reason is so that - in case it's on our side - we can work on that? I feel like the views from NU are a considerable percentage of views. If there are certain tags or whatever meaning our stories can't be shown there, then it would be nice if we knew that so we can decide how to deal with them.

If this is a feature, I don't even need to know how to be shown. I would consider this something akin to a trending. However, if this is a bug, it changes everything.

I didn't even realise that there was a NU cross-post. Does it bring a lot of readers? Or is it only if your story is similar to eastern novels?

I was looking into it earlier. It seems to be related to newness of the story and its tags. Stories below certain number of words/readers/sth seem to not show in that box. I think smut might be filtered out too, but not sure about that. Apart from that it does seem to be just looking into newest updates

No, smut isn't filtered, and there is no connection between newness, statistics, and being shown on NU. Right now, it's absolutely random.
