Hello SH community.

This question is a bit awkward, but I'll need clarification.
I have a series rated mature, and generally the story can continue without depicted sex scenes, even if it's hinted that lewd things do happen once relationships start.
I can't help myself though, and there's one optional smut chapter on AO3 already - which includes more characterization than actual smut.

My dilemma is that I wouldn't want to tag my work smut and then disappoint potential readers when it turns out that only one in 12-20 chapters has a sex scene if I include it in the main upload.
Since the content guidelines forbid pure porn uploads I am not sure if it would be best practice to create a sort of 'smut chapters anthology' and then link it via the connected series feature.

Any thoughts?

P.s.: if it helps judging the situation, here's one smut chapter that's already out (I wouldn't directly include the illustration of course, as per the guidelines)

What about adding an adult tag in it instead, the smut genre usually mean that the story heavily caters around sex, so I'd suggest adding an adult tag instead, would that help?

All discussion about the adult tag has been nebulous regarding its definition, and in other places I've seen that descriptive sex must always be labeled smut when I did my search for this topic, so that had me confused. I might give the adult tag a try, then.

Yeah if you want some example check it has descriptive sex scenes but as long as you have the Mature and Adult genre included into your book with a good amount of tags that your story has then you should be fine.

did that include scribble hub as well?

It was forum searches here but the results were a while ago admittedly.

Only use smut as a label if the story focuses on the characters having sex when there is a concrete focus on humping.

If sex happens as part of the story, I wouldn't consider it a smut novel. Only if it happens frequently, like within 5 to 8 chapter regularity. Intimacy is part of romance; it only turns into porn when it becomes the focus point, and it happens a lot.

But that's just my opinion.

I think (correct me if I'm wrong), the way the tags work is that you use the tags whose elements are heavily focused into the book (not if it is a brush). If you have 90% regular content and 10% smutty content, better to just engage the mature and adult content switches instead. The mature option I believe is its own tag, and should be used to cover the basis. You don't have to use the tags the way I mentioned, it is best for expectations and all.
