You are at a convention or other event and find yourself in the company of a few fellow authors. You all decide to go back to the room of one of the authors and just keep the evening going. While swapping stories, and sipping various adult beverages (if allowed), the evening is suddenly interrupted as the door bursts open, and a beautiful but strange-looking woman with teal hair and bright green eyes bursts in.
"I am Bel-Shar, Mistress and Guardian of the Ways. You are needed.
"Well, not EXACTLY you, but your characters, who cannot exist without you.
"If you choose to come with me, you will become one of them, of your choice, and I will take you to a world similar to yours, one facing a crisis point that only your combined abilities can overcome. You will retain your own memories, plus all the memories of your character for the duration.
"This is a world where technology is about thirty years behind what you know, because magic never left and it is commonplace, so choose your new form wisely. Time is of the essence!"

What do you do?

You know, I've come a long way in terms of understanding what makes people like a story.

But for situations like this, my first OC- an immortal shapeshifter who likes visiting new worlds and collecting all the powers from them- is probably the best answer. I have yet to create a better character, just characters that people tolerate more.

I press the figurative [Win] button. And then I hand out [Win] buttons to my fellow author/self-inserts, because I'm generous like that. Then again, if the crisis is of a nature that requires my level of power, there's literally no hope for anyone. The planet will literally cease to exist before things end.

Is she single?
She CAN be... or not... she guards the Ways between Worlds, the access to Everything, and most of the other gods fear or just flat out avoid her... so she has been known to take on lovers...

Okay. Well, it doesn't say any rules of "the character has to be published, or liked", or anything of the sort. So, I'll make one up on the spot. I'm a morph. A mixture of all my characters combined. My real physical identity is lost to me because I've transformed into so many other body types, that I can no longer remember what I used to look like only what I like, and prefer, to look like. -And lets be real, it'll be incredibly vain; Socially beautiful, and stylish to the point of complete avarice; Nothing what I actually am. xD all the magic powers of previous characters falling out of my ass, and lets throw on some cute doggo ears, and a monkey's tail for no reason at all. Bienvenido~ Done, Lets go.

Of course, what if we had not one, but two immortal world-hoppers that can distribute their goodies and power nuggets to the group? Because that's also my first OC, the bartender at the center of the multiverse. After those [Win] buttons are pressed, we can all go back to the bar to enjoy some burgers and drinks that may or may not temporary kill the consumer.

Ah, the bartender at the center of the universe? One of her employees!
