You're driving while under the influence and you hit somebody that was walking up in the middle of your lane. You pull over, knowing full well that roadkill is perfectly in the fault, but there is that one wet issue about contacting an emergency response number.

In the moment, full of adrenaline and feeling absolutely sober now, how do you handle this? :blob_shock:

This is a weird one. Are you calling the person hit roadkill?
The idea I had was smart but dumb because I didn't execute the signal clearly enough; I used the term "roadkill" because I was immersed in the drunken state how I'd view the person.

Right now, my prompt sounds like it's spoken about a drunk driver, but I was sort of mixing the signal there. I wanted it to feel like it's spoken from inside the driver's skull. You know, that messy, defensive, self-justifying, and a little ugly thought that pops right in there and wish it could be bleached clean for being that nasty. So, yes, jarring as hell.

Logically, assuming you would not have been able to avoid the collision even sober, roadkill alone is at fault.
From a legal standpoint, you were under influence, which is obviously illegal, so you share at least some of roadkill's blame, although intoxication might count as a mitigating circumstance under some jurisdictions, in some cases.

If you call emergency services, you are handing yourself in, but it speaks in your favour. If you don't, there is a chance they won't find you, but you're inviting harsher consequences if they do...

If I was the drunk driver? Drive off bc you're at fault for not paying attention to watch was in front of your car even if you weren't drunk.
Neing drunk just makes it murder, you would've still done time even if you weren't drunk tho, you're just for sure going to prison now

How is the visibility?
Is it night and the person wearing dark clothing?
Are the car lights on?
Why were they walking in the middle of the lane?
For example, if it is a foggy night and they are wearing light clothing that blends in with the fog, then they would have been hit even if you were sober.

Easy way out of this,

You pull out the few cold ones you have in the back, start drinking them outside the vehicle, and then call emergency services. By the time they arrive, you say you were sober and couldn't handle having killed the 'Roadkill', so you cracked open a few beers on the side of the road to drown the pain. Call yourself a lawyer while you are at it.

Volia, no drunk driving charge as they cant prove you were drunk at the time.

Please come to me for any other 'Great' legal advice. On my next installment, I will explain why you should always have a ball glove and baseball in your trunk if you carry a bat around.

That's pretty genius, honestly.

Oh, I already know this one. Honestly, though, I used to carry a sledge hammer in my trunk. It was easy to explain because I had chopped down trees in my backyard recently and hammering wedges; enough hits with a cheap one can break the head off or wear the neck enough to slip and be loose enough to not stay on one of those.

It was easier back in the days before everyone and their dog had a camera on them, you might get lucky and no one saw. These days, its more likely it was streamed at 4k by four different people unless you were out in the countryside somewhere.

That's what happened in one episode of The Practice, one of my favorite series.
