So how and why does an entire 5-7 posts in a comment section get purged? Should the people who wrote at least one of the comments get informed it was purged and why?

I guess some author deleted a bunch of them under the chapter where the creator of this thread posted. And well. Deletion notifications aren't that common. Unless it's something against the rules and done by the administration team and is followed by a warning or something.

Well simple fact of the matte is if the author wants your comments off of their thread (chapters) for whatever reason, they have the right to. Whether you are informed about it and whether you take offense shouldnt matter worth a damn.

Now, If I commented somewhere and the comment got deleted, i would just have to accept it. Maybe i would like to know why, but that shouldn't matter to the person who deleted it.

Of course some authors are going to be assholes about it. Maybe delete comments criticizing their work. But their content, their rules.

Oh? I didn't know it'd happen, nor am I aware that we can delete comments in our chapters.

In any case, critical or not, I'd let the readers decide for themselves how trashy worthy is my work.

I am more curious as to how it can happen, than the why it happen. If authors have that power in their comment section, than so mote it be. I actually thought it was an interesting conversation that was deleted, that people including the author were having. Not stressing, just was curious.

The guy who started the convo probably deleted it for personal reasons. If anything you should ask the guy who made the comment in the first place.

Yup, I am so going to abuse the "delete reader's comment" button.

Also, can the readers themselves know that they are getting erased?

I don't think so. Readers only realise they've been erased when they face a deity of death that offers them reincarnation as a random roll in the AD&D 2e. bestiary.

There's also a chance that if the comments are in response to another comment like:
Comment
response
response
response
then if the original comment is deleted it will delete the responses as well (which can be done by either the author or the original commenter)
