Anybody else unable to access the fan fiction thread? Like, completely? Every time I try to access it through its tag it takes me to a 404 panel.
Truth. As much as I fear that Dec is completely right, Tony has not announced anything related to the Fanfiction Tag and the Fandom tags.
He posted on Discord that you can still find fanfiction with the series finder, but that's all. Fandom wasn't really mentioned.
I believe he's still cooking and will announce something related to the Fandom system.

Well, I have noticed several FF have been removed from the Trending list completely the last few days... I don't mean just top 10, but from the complete list. They can still be found with other searches, so it might be part of just showcasing original works now. Or it could be some salty translators still reporting other works still because we stood up to them in the forums/The Longue.

My readership hasn't dropped at all, but I am no longer on the list either. Which is weird, going from being consistently in the top 5 to not being in the top 95 at all.Of course, ff will be trending way less often. How do you think people find/read fanfictions? They use the fandom tags. Without them, expect a 30-40% loss in readership, especially for smaller stories.
There is a good reason why it's easier to get readers to write fanfictions. Let's be honest here. It's easy mode.
Without the Fandom tag boost, fanfictions will drastically lose readers and are now on even ground with all original stories. However, ultimately, it's the reader who suffers and can't find new stories that conveniently anymore.

I am not actually against removing FFs from trending; I was just noting that something had changed. As much as I liked seeing my work on the main page, OG works should be the highlights of the site, not some smut FF baloney. I won't complain if I get back there, but I won't shed any tears either if I don't. FF writing was just a stepping stone to improve my writing skills before I moved on to my own OG stories.
I assume fanfictions got similar treatment to translations before the purge. Hidden from the front page, but still searchable.Well, I have noticed several FF have been removed from the Trending list completely the last few days... It will probably drop over time.
Of course, your core readers will continue.
But every now and then, a reader will drop your story or just stop reading/visiting the site in general.
Usually, you offset that number with new readers, and that's where you'll notice a difference.
You will get WAY fewer new readers.
So over time, your story will either lose readers or will grow way slower.
I would also accept removing FFs from trending, in exchange for keeping the Fandom feature alive.
yeah thats why I said SOME FF seem to have been affected, not all of them... hence why I am noting the issues, and if it continues, will send Tony a message with what I have noticed.
