Is Bodybuilding an artform, sport, or performance art? Ive heard body builders each call it any one of those, Frank Zane said it was all three. Pro bodybuilding requires you to know how to pose to better show off your physique, so it is more than just build muscle. I personally think it is a form of art, since it naturally is about how beautiful you can make the body...until you start taking steroids, then it becomes mass monster-y and ungraceful.

As a former amateur bodybuilder before I switched to powerlifting, I just called it a sport... or a lifestyle since you need to modify your diet and sleep and other things.
Did you switch due to the lifestyle requirements or did you just find powerlifting more fun

Lifestyle/job mainly...then got married. I found the time and diet commitments were less to lift heavy than to try to change shapes of muscles and cutting, fasting to gain definition...

Basically went from being careful with what i ate to eat whatever as long as it had protein.

Not to mention part of my day job I was carrying around large helium cylinders up and down the back of a 5 ton army truck by myself. Powerlifting gave me better 'working' muscles than pretty boy ones.

All the top bodybuilders take steroids; even if they aren't trying to bulk up more, it's the fastest way to cut weight/dehydrate themselves for the chiseled look.
Yeah, diuretics. You used to take roids and still look good (see frank zane), then Dorian Yates became big and then it spiraled out of control. This year's Mr Olympia weighs like 200 pounds, 2024's weighed, allegedly, 275 pounds. They make it a freak show, but it used to be very aesthetic.

I expected “The house that Jack built” kind of bodybuilding twist. :blob_hmm:
