anyone on here done their own hair? Basically, I started with hair that was virgin hair to my ears, and the rest had 11ty billion years of brown box dye on it (that had been bleached prior, when I thought lockdown was a good time to play with hair shit).
Natural colour is brown but coming through grey. So I was gonna grow it out....and didn't like the way it looked. So I thought why not bleach it, and then dye silver. THEN just grow out the grey.
Turns out, bottom half won't bleach beyond daffodil yellow, top half goes white. Silver dye just turned it mint green. I used 30vol developer.
WTF do I do....dye it with a bright colour, or a different silver/slate colour? Pastels don't seem to take well. Unless it's a toner, then it goes lavender.

Help me not take 40vol to it...! :devilish:

If I were you I'd do the bleaching part with someone helping you next time for better bleaching. The Color usually washes out easily after a few weeks so you have to dye regularily too.

I bleached the front part with 40vol a while ago. Then I did some research and found out 40 isn't a good idea. Shouldn't have listened, shoulda took 40 to it all over.

My real mistake was thinking 'I am not going to dye my hair any more' :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Wtf 30vol???

you mean like hydrogen peroxide??? Are you in USA or in Europe? I assume you haven’t dyed with color that has those metal components. Did you use proper bleaching stuff, or just the one you can get in your local grocery store?

Bleaching doesn’t work that easily. If you had different colored hair parts, then you need to level the colors out first. Like bleach the darker parts first and leave the developer longer. Also the 2cm near your scalp should have been brushed last, because of the body heat, the bleaching will work faster.

Also don’t dye darker, with such a messy base it won’t work.

base is a fairly uniform colour (cut the darker ends) and I did do it all that way (scalp last). The bleach is a blondeplex thing, can't remember the brand.
But I wanted platinum, and the toners I've tried have not worked, and the grey dye didn't work. I think I'm just going to go with a temp red (I've used Directions and Manic Panic before on bleached hair), and not worry about getting it to silver. I'll try that again when the last of the previously box-dyed hair has grown out and been chopped.
Cheers m'dears

good luck whatever you do

Maybe massage some no-fragrance face toner/scalp lotion on your scalp after dyeing. Helps greatly with burning sequelae.

yeah I got some bright red dye. Manic Panic. Nice tip about the toner, I usually use a rosemary oil with shea butter (I have thick Greek hair). With all my 30 years of dyeing I don't have any scalp problems or hair loss.....just fried ends :ROFLMAO: (now chopped)
