Do you get bombed with 1 stars and 2 stars often? I know that everyone says that rating here is not important, but I feel that it does hinder people from reading the story. I don't know, I just saw that Anti-cake got bombed, and I just feel heartbroken.

Best advice is to tag any controversial tags that play a decent role in your story and if it's a big role to even make it clear in the synopsis. It's all about managing expectations. If you set the right expectations people review bombing not for quality, but content will be kept to a minimum. It won't mean they will never happen, but at least it will reduce it as most people that hate those tags will just skip your novel without leaving a review/score.

This generally goes for harem too. Though it has pretty broad appeal it has a not insignificant amount of readers that really dislike it and will leave reviews if a story they weren't aware was harem suddenly turns out to be harem. Same for GB, GL and a bunch of other tags.

I feel like there is always a “occasional” wave of 1 star ratings for BL (probably also other controversial genres but BL has some persistent haters that even make fake accounts to rate). Those will likely get removed if it’s too suspicious.

Ofc there are also genuine bad ratings, but most of them are because bad grammar/unpolished writing that makes it hard to follow the story. If the content is not to their liking then they more likely give 3-4 stars. (At least that is what I think is the meaning behind the ratings)

The readership of BL on SH is generally very nice so they will give the story a try even if it’s not the perfect 5star rating.
Personally I don’t give bad rating if it’s because the content is not to my preference but the grammar and writing is on point.

I happened to me once, but it disappeared after a bit, so I assume the mods caught on and threw out the person who was bombing everyone.

Looking at the top 20 BL, most of them have some 1 stars. I think about 10% one stars is normal for this site.

I do write BL, I actually mainly write BL (none of them are written in English though), it just so happened that the story I mainly work on (well, right now I don't work on it, but that's a different matter) is not BL (still has a side pairing that's gay, though insignificant). The two BL stories I have online are sidelined right now, until I reach at least the end of Season 1 of my main, so people aren't exposed to it enough to review bomb it in any direction, I guess.
I once got one bad rating on that non-BL main project though. That was noteworthy because I saw there was a new rating and it was 1-Star, but it wasn't visible to other accounts and when I checked back a few hours later, the rating had somehow vanished. That felt a bit strange.
