So previously I have written about Chinese cultivation MC’s sexual haRIZZment. Now I’m gonna talk about JP MCs.

99% of JP MC’s are beta cucks that probably would congratulate the girl they like if the girl gets pounded by another person. How much if a pussy do you have to be to not even be able to talk to them properly?
50+ chapters to hold hand? What next? 1000 chapters to hug? 10000 to kiss? Sometimes I understand why people like NtR. Wouldn't be weird if these JP MCs start to wear green shiny hats

While I hate this trope with every fiber of my existence, I believe it's more of a cultural difference. Japan has this image of meeting everything with kindness, even if it's only on the surface, while also being a conformist country where it's frowned upon to be "different". Because of the current trend of herbivore males, it's naturally leaked into their fiction with them being the protagonists of most works This has the problem of causing more proactive, confident, and realistic protagonists to stand out negatively, no matter how much overseas fans hate the currently established tropes and clichés. I mean, just because you understand something doesn't mean you have to like it, which is why I genuinely feel so disappointed when stories written on here and other sites take the actual worst tropes from JP media to add to their stories. Super interesting settings, side characters, and world building, dragged to the bottom of the sea because they decided to use the most frustrating protagonist, so frustrating that you don't even care that he develops after 100+ chapters.

It's Japan. Their traditional romance stories are all tragedies. When two people get together, it's usually the time when the bodies start hitting the ground. Expect at least one person to die afterwards. Usually more, traditional romances have the body count of the slasher movie. However, they have an audience which doesn't want everyone to die because they would feel depressed. And they all feel depressed already. Those who are depressed and don't want to be depressed have only one option for how to approach the story. So they are stuck in limbo where the romance takes a steady pace of one step towards, two steps back. It's probably the best route to prevent a global extinction event.

If it's a romance anime/manga/whatever, I get bored and generally drop when they get together after episodes of not sharing their feelings.

There's a lotta fiction for women with herbivorous leads too, has been for a long time. I think it's cool that there's more male herbivorous leads now! Obviously not going to be for everyone, like, male leads are seldom my jam in general-- but fiction should exist for everyone.

Most incredibly slow burn romance is focused on crushing and pining rather than anything sexual actually happening, and I think that can have some pretty interesting emotional situations.

Regardless, if it bothers you that people take forever to do anything, maybe you should read more smut-- generally in smut, regardless of the MC being herbivorous or not, people get down to fucking and/or kink reasonably quickly.

I mean, I understand that it's not your jam, but-- there's nothing unrealistic about the protagonists being that way? You even say "the current trend of herbivore males", implying it's an IRL thing.
