While It’s made of flesh and bone, it’s technically a possessed ship so I would consider it a ghost.

Zombie pirates don't work because of the rotting and salt water eroding the skin. Ghost pirates are the best but depending on the story could be a detriment as characters can't harm them due to the ethereal body while the ghost pirates can attack and posses people. I pick skeleton pirates because it's just ghost pirates but they willed themselves to, or were cursed to, posses their own bones and ride the waves. Effective as an attack target while also being scary and undead. Think, curse of the black pearl.

Ghosts. Imagine how terrified every ships they're going to meet when they saw the deck filled with clothes floating, sword slicing, cannon firing, yet they could not see any sign of people at all.

I'd personally consider Pirates of the Caribbean pirates to be Zombie Pirates. They got too much flesh to be skeletons.

Seems like ghosts are the dark horse favorite though, lol.
