Authors who wrote stories that have a low rating, how do you feel about it?

Can be from any platform.

I'm sure some of us have those reviews that rate our stories pretty badly. Sometimes its bullshit but others actually make a good point about what it's lacking in.

I've seen some stories with <4, and there's some written reviews saying it's because of the story going downhill, a shitty plot twist, or it was just shit to begin with.

How do you authors with these kinds of reviews feel about it?

Also I'm waiting for a certain someone to show their glorious 1* reviews.

I have one, it's not on this account but the rating is borderline 3*. It's made to be shit and I'm damn proud of how badly it crashed and burned. Gave me hope in the future generation.

My first ever story was a hot piece of garbage. I wrote it when I was 14 with shitty grammar and made the mistake of posting it on RR. This was years back, and by some miracle, I made it to the popular this week. Needless to say, some people were enraged at how I made it there, and they made sure I knew how angry they were about it. I didn't particularly care cause I had started it on a whim, so just the fact that I had people commenting made me happy enough to continue writing. One review though stuck with me all these years, the title of it was "Unfathomable" and I remember having to google the word cause I didn't know what it meant. That made me pretty upset considering I thought my English level at the time to be 'perfect'. So ya, that just kinda motivated me to write and read more.

I don't know why but the moment someone rated one of my story into 1 star, by some divine miracle, it cause my place to black out and not only that, I couldn't access my internet for 3 days.

I don't know who that person was but I think he might be into witchcraft of some sort to even send Zeus to my place out of sheer anger of my story.

Now, its added to my list why I axed my stories.

My first fanfiction was shit, I admit... It is barely 3.8 here but on webnovel platform, my fanfic gets a much worse review and rating.

The people on there doesn't give me a lot of helpful feedback at all, and just trash me a lot. Back then I am still new and really need a lot of feedback about my writing and my approach... and in pure motivation, I am doing this for fun.

However, damn 90% of them just straight condemn and shit on me. I ask them politely in every chapter, and what I get is people straight mocking me. Some even said that I should not write, because what I write is only shit.

What did I feel at that time? Pure stress, disappointment, frustration, and confusion combined... it is just, I don't have fun. I don't know how to explain that. It was to the point I left that platform and decide to not come back at all even when I had become a better writer.

It was a suck experience but from that, I learn how to not really care about statistics, keep my expectations low and you can't please everyone. I learn how to be humble, lol. It is also from that moment I put more effort to become an even better writer.

So, every rating system with a 1-5 scale?
Most systems that the general viewer base gets their hands on.

Seems like most people are speaking of 1 star reviews that are just pissed off people. I'm curious about some of the 2-3 star reviews that actually have a point.
I'm far more likely to read a 2-4 star review than I am a 5 star. Most 5 star ratings are from people who are thirsty for more content and will put up with something that's readable to them regardless of the spelling & grammatical errors, the plot hole of an MC, reading it over google translate or as someone reading It with <insert language here> as their 3rd language etc.

My work have gone 3.8 to 4 stars here in SH, and from 3.5 to 4.3 in Syosetsu. While I admit the feeling sucked, in time, I just went on with writing my work (and improving on it while I can). I want to write and tell stories, so while I do take note of the improvements I have to do, I also don't let the ratings impede my progress.

After all, I write what I want, and what I want may not be what others want.

I appreciate the comments more than the ratings, because it meant the reader invested their time reading my work.

Still, I classify my received feeds between useful and useless.

Oh, and I'd like to add...

My philosophy in writing is that, I'd rather waste my time writing and improving my craft, than spend my days languishing in despair because of bad revs and ratings.

I got a one star rating on the first chapter of one of my stories. It was the first story I posted here and it was the very first chapter. Just a one star rating. No reason behind it. I still don't know what sin I committed to get a one star rating on the first chapter but for a long time it was the only rating I had on that story and I think it really affected my numbers (who wants to read a one star story). It wasn't even the rating that got me annoyed, it was that there was no reason behind it. If I knew what was wrong I could fix it. Since then I've gotten better ratings and comments from people saying they really like the story so that one star rating is still a mystery to me

Possibly your tags? Some people just irrationally hate certain tags.

Yes! Give me more! More one-star ratings, please!!!!!
I've been expecting you.(I actually haven't given you a one star rating yet, lol)

We've got cases here where a story would receive an auto 1* for sake of it. It happens sometimes. No reason, just pure trolling.

You can ask the owner, Tony, to have it checked for you (the authenticity of that rating).
