I recently learned about university courses focused on Taylor Swift, like the ones at Harvard, NYU, and Stanford. It got me wondering—are there similar courses dedicated to other artists? If there aren’t many university courses on other artists, which musicians do you think deserve one? If you could sign up for a course on any artist, who would it be? Personally, I’d choose Ren, RAYE, and Sofia Isella!

Eve, minami, Ado, .⠀ , and ⠀⠀
YOU KNOW EVE AND MINAMI? People hardly know Ado, but this is my FIRST time seeing someone know the other two. On the same topic, I would also like to add tuki.
(MY girl WORKS SO HARD, SHE NEEDS THAT SPOTLIGHT ASAP. I MEAN THEY ALL DESERVE IT).

They are the best when it comes to music composition. Specially eve since he has animators locked up in his basement who work for him.

There isn't any course about one artist, but in France you can have a semester about an artist, either in your plastic art class or art history class (both compulsory classes during collège, so 11 to 15 years old), or sometimes in your visual art class (optional class in lycée, 15 to 18 years old)

But it's mostly classical artists or people that marked history, the most recent one must be from the 60's

Most people outside of Japan and Weeaboos hardly know about J-Pop and J-Rock in general, much less about Ado, Eve, and Minami. Honestly, they're too gimmicky for me.

Well anyway, we already have University courses dedicated to dead artists, but if I could sign up a short course for the living ones, I'd choose Madonna coz her era was interesting, and Pharrell Williams coz I'm curious about his experience itself in the back of the industry.

So, you guys learn how Beethoven decomposes?

I feel like it's that hidden gemstone reserved for the curious ones. K-pop is fairly known by everyone due to its rise in popularity in the past years. I hope the same can happen to J-pop because there are so many hidden hits! They literally deserve it!

Could you tell me the university name so I can check it?

I agree with you. Madonna was at the top of her game, both in music and fashion. Pharrell Williams seems to only drop music when he is in debt. A Pokémon CAN BE summoned more times than him.

I mean... Beethoven is easy game, try to explain Mozart's life and how 'my way or the highway' he was. He was an absolute troll and a madman, but in a 'funny for us now, but not funny for anyone at the time' way

They have courses on Taylor Swift? The fuck is wrong with people. She's a mid artist, with idiotic rabid fans that eat up the same pathetic breakup and ex boyfriend songs she's been regurgitating for the past 2 decades.

Isn't it quite obvious from his piece, Leck mich im Arsch? which roughly translate to LICK ME IN THE ASS Sure Mozart might have had the humour of a 14-year-old boy on Reddit, but it doesn't come close to Tchaikovsky! Bro was the "emotional wreck with a flair for the dramatic" gay drama queen back in the day if you knew the number of times he had BREAKDOWNS. Also, remember what he had sent Claude. His n***

On an important note : I mean no disrespect to these late composers who were ahead of their time. I am just spilling the tea, pal chill.

I mean... I'm not a fan of her songs, but you have to admire her career. She has won 49 awards, and became the most decorated artist in Billboard Music Awards history. She writes and composes her own songs, and explored a lot of genres like pop, rock, country, etc... And she was absolutly legendary when she fought with Katy Perry for having stolen one of her dancers, and made an absolute banger of a diss track that charted in the Billboard Hot 100. (Her entire album that year was made of songs sending jabs to celebrities who disrespected her)

I don't like her voice, but nobody can say she is a 'mid artist', or she only writes 'ex boyfriend' and 'breakup' songs. That would be misinformation

Yeah, nobody realizes how f up these classical muscians were. Like, Schumann wanted to be more flexible when he played, so he used a home made machine to extend his 4th finger. Which absolutly ruined the tendons and ligaments, and he was forced to stop playing

An ex of mine was really into this and what she said was that J-pop isn't marketed towards non-Japanese people at all (and there's also the copyright issues of sharing them in other platforms). Man, aside from their homogenized pool of artists, J-Pop can be really weird. On one end of the spectrum we have Idols and young girl groups that can't sing to save their lives but would still have a ton fans since they're "cute" or rock bands that barely makes a tune but would still have solid fans if they have decent enough visuals or some wacky niche experimental theme. Artists can make a living out of it as long as they have a decent following from locals so the business aspect of it doesn't need or try to go international, CDs are still popular there and usually used as the basis for market success. And despite the open and blatant issues and harassments done by some creators (like the Johnny's), fans don't even bother to scrutinize or question them. I asked her "How is it any different from Chris Brown and R-kelly?". She only said "At least they bothered to report and penalized them for it."

University name of what? I meant it that we already study stuff about dead artists like Beethoven and Mozart.

She's really a trailblazer for her time, especially for time of no social media no social media manager. As for Pharrell, he's in the back of the industry, the ones like producers and songwriters, that's why he got away scot-free from the "Blurred Lines" issue. Hahaha

Yeah, J-Pop is definitely its own thing. The way it's so localized and still relies on CDs for success is pretty wild compared to how the global music industry operates. And yeah, the fan culture is intense—whether it’s idols who can’t really sing or bands with more style than substance, as long as they have a solid local following, they’re set. The whole lack of scrutiny around industry issues is frustrating, though. Your ex’s response to the Chris Brown/R. Kelly comparison makes sense—at least in the West, there were actual legal consequences.

My bad, I asked for the name of the university.

And yeah, studying Beethoven and Mozart feels kinda funny when you think about how we analyse dead artists but ignore some major issues with living ones.

But IMO, Madonna's songs just aren’t what they used to be. Her older tracks had this unique energy and originality that really set trends, but lately, it feels like she’s trying too hard to keep up rather than lead the way. The vibe just isn’t the same any more.

As for Pharrell, for sure—being behind the scenes as a producer gives him that shield. He really dodged the entire "Blurred Lines" mess while Robin Thicke took most of the heat. Classic industry move.
